  1. No, I just saw it isn't the same movie. It was called It must schwing: The BN story, and it's also from 2018. "It must schwing", a typical Alfred Lion phrase.
  2. I think I saw that film. I'm unsure though if it's the same. And I saw it in late 2018 or 2019 (before the pandemic anyway.. and I'm quite sure it was 2018). So the dates fit. The film I saw was great (maybe the greatest story of the BN label I've seen or read so far) and it was composed of archival images and animation (for the undocumented parts). And it was produced by Wim Wenders. But it was more a music docu than a movie.
  3. Caetano Veloso - Joia An absolute beauty from 1975.
  4. That one is one of my favorites. And that one. And that one, specially. And yes, with that cover. But what I wanted to point out is this: The title track is a haunting rendition of Velvet Underground's song. From 2003.
  5. Thanks for that suggestion.
  6. I have some of these, but I'm seeing there are many, many more. But I imagine they'll be really hard to get now. And I see I have some in different permutations. Like Edmond Hall's Profoundly Blue. Which I have as a domestic compilation of 3 or 4 sessions. And when I say domestic I mean EU or US releases. And those were mostly compilations with more material than the Japanese that, as is their use, only did reissues. Replicas of the old albums. The Meade Lux Lewis Boogie Woogie probably was on the BN CD First Day. And I'd be really interested in the Hardee Swingtets.
  7. The above plus the following are two of my all time rock favorites. The Velvet Underground of course. But much as I like the first, with Nico, I also like their second. This one.
  8. Yes, I have a George Lewis CD out of the same domestic (US, that is) BN 60th anniversary batch the Swingtets (perhaps the best of 'em all, together with Profoundly Blue by Edmond Hall and which features Charlie Christian) album is from.
  9. Thanks, Niko. I haven't tried Bandcamp, just their website and it appears from there there is no possibility of subscribing. But I'll try your recommendations. Thanks.
  10. So how do you do that? On Bandcamp or on their own site, where I searched but didn't find any such possibility? I ask because I'm in your same position: immensely interested in their output, but lacking any insights. I got around and ordered Tubby's Free Flight and got it today. Will listen to it in the following days. There was also a compilation I was interested in, and which I would have got with the Tubby, but it was vinyl only. And since I'm a CD guy and don't even own a turntable I passed. It was called Into the archives, and contained, I imagine, a number of representative acts from that time.
  11. Listening to one of my most beloved Mosaics again. I said it sometime ago, but Pass is as wonderful here on steel strings as on nylon ones.
  12. Same here. I want to know, since this is a period of BN I'm particularly interested in and that's a bit underrepresented. But I think it's already been explained above. I have all of the above, except the Port of Harlem boxset, Reminiscing, The BN Jazzmen and the Mosaics. Plus some Japanese CDs that were reissued in 1999 for BN's 60th (mostly Bechet, Quebec, Port of Harlem and Hardee) and I don't know if anything else. Plus I also have the Boogie Woogie Select, but that's not BN and some Bechet CDs. I'm wondering what I'm missing that has been released.
  13. That's a very good one. Yes, that's true: he doesn't look very Jackie Mac-like on that cover. That's something I like very much: that whole Cosmic Disco scene. And Soul Jazz is an excellent compilation label out of London. I might consider seeking that out.
  14. Yesterday night I listened to this one: But only to the first CD.
  15. Eddie Costa Quartet - Guys and Dolls like Vibes, with Bill Evans.
  16. Same here. I think it was in the early to mid 2000s.
  17. Neither I didn't experience that problem.
  18. Yes, but I'm afraid that's what blew his mind.
  19. Do you mean Ozzy or Kenny G here? Because I hate Ozzy even more than Kenny G.
  20. I'm just now listening and seeing the video of Kid Creole and the Coconuts' Stool Pigeon. Liked that song a lot when it came out in 1982. But you gotta see the video again to realize how dated it feels today.
  21. Not from the Mosaic but a Conn. I followed your rec and picked up the Konitz, plus the Sims & Brookmeyer. And both are great and also with good sound.
  22. Oh, I have a D'Angelico, though not a New Yorker but an EXL. They were incredibly Art Deco-inspired. And I didn't know he was a guitarist. So I'll have to investigate that.
