  1. Good to hear that Brasamba is getting a reissue. I have it but merely as a collection of ones and zeroes. And I have it labelled as Brazil, music I like a lot, as it is a bit samba like. And if it's related to Jazz Messengers, which IS a very good shop, it's Freshsound, you can be sure.
  2. Phil Ranelin, The time is Now!, Tribe The other day I went through my cds and stumbled upon this, which I have as a cd reissue from 2000 and hadn't heard in a very long time. And yesterday I listened to it and was completely blown away. It's Phil Ranelin with the Tribe collective. Readily reconizable among these (by me) are Phil Ranelin, Marcus Belgrave and Wendell Harrisson. Very, very good. And together with this, to stay in the mood, I listened to a compilation of Strata-East material I have had since the nineties. Released back then by Universal Sounds, the arm of Soul Jazz, a very good British label specializing in Reggae and other compilations such as this.
  3. I have a pair of B&W speakers with my main system and I'm very happy with them. I just happen to not know the model. They're like ten years old.
  4. And it's good you all post this because I still haven't updated and think I won't. I'm too fond of the interface and functionality on version 10. Like you say here everytime I update I cross my fingers and expect the worse but I think there must be improvements coming, but it's not always like this.
  5. and who recorded Hootin and Tootin, which I have, I thought as I saw this. But then I thought: but is he? Is it the same man? And on reading the Wikipedia link I see he is.
  6. I got this because I had little Django and it was well priced. I'm not versed in Django discography. Turns out there are his earliest recordings plus a never released rare test acetate with three tracks. But what is a mistery to me is the mastering. I don't know if it has been properly mastered for this reissue or if it has been taken over from another release. the credits state the name of the engineer (Mathieu Bameulle) and the place but not the date. So that leads me to think it was not done purposely for this set. But La Source Mastering is, I think, a present day mastering studio.
  7. i got this box and it contains some ultraphone (a small label whose claim to fame was having recorded django and which was later bought up by vogue) sessions from 1934-35, and different radio broadcasts from 1945 and 47, a concert from Brussels and something i still haven't listened to. i don't know what's in the mosaic but here it's mostly the usual quintet with stephane grapelli or, after 1945, with hubert rostaing or two other clarintetists and django with a big band. and it's a lot of material: 8 cds.
  8. the complete norman granz jam sessions i particularly like the way this set has been released with each cd in one lean digipack with (some of) the david stone-martin covers.
  9. same here and most of all i like his all night session, which is an incredible trio plus jim hall on guitar. very, very good!
  10. a very nice overview over his early and also his late years and everything in between.

  13. Yeah, same here. Although already a couple of days ago.
  14. one of those al grey argos came out as a lpr a while back. i have it but though i've looked hard for it can't find it now. it's called something like snap your fingers or snap something. and i also agree that a select of them would be great. a great way of having them all together.
  15. it doesn't sound as good as the king oliver, but i'm happy i have it. it brings together a lot of material and it is well restored, plus i just had a so-so compilation of bix tracks and i wanted the wolverines badly.
  16. have ordered the set as soon as i heard about it. i have the king oliver and it was a no brainer to decide for that one.
  17. i have the freddie redd bn that was released in japan as a mini-lp. but i'm speaking off the top of my head because i can't find it right now. i don't remember if it had howard mcghee on board, but i suspect not, since it is not mentioned here.
  18. i listened to this album recently after a long, long time and liked it a lot. and now, thanks to this thread yesterday i picked it up again from among the piles of recently listened albums and found it very good. it's a great album! i love that period blue note.
  19. Kenton Jazz Presents Bob Cooper, Bill Holman & Frank Rosolino. And, I think, the only Mosaic with a white cover.
  20. isn't that cover beautiful?
