  1. I understand French so so, and I even have some books in French, but the truth is it's very hard to understand if you've never studied it. Yes with the help of other Roman languages you can manage, but not me. BUT I understand and can read Italian and Portuguese/Brazilian quite well, though I never studied them.
  2. Also a classic from my youth. I even saw them live once in 1980 together with (guess who?) Mike Oldffield . I often think of them when I see those oh so fashionable Ramones T-Shirts from today. Which hipsters wear without probably knowing anything about them.
  3. I had zero education in French. All English. I even had a French girlfriend when I was young and we spoke in English. I sometimes think now what an insult that must have been to her. My father masters French, but not me.
  4. Otherwise known as L'Etranger. Yes, this one also belonged to my mother. Purchase date Sep. 1961. I believe this is where the idea for The Cure's Killing an arab comes from. I think I already read it, but like 40 years ago. So I'm rereading it. That's one I've ordered from my regular bookshop as well. I'm a big Winslow fan and have read almost anything he's put out. But there's his debut from 1991, I think, which I can't get hold of. And I ordered it but it's OOP. I think it's called something like Underground. If anybody has a clue as to how to find it I'd be very grateful.
  5. They played (I think more than one time) at an important electronica festival here, Sonar. But I never saw them. But I did see Orbital there in 95.
  6. Second that. Very hilarious and super weird. And it here it's already evening. So a good read to end the day too.
  7. I'm in heaven here. As I like so much Small Group Swing.
  8. I like his In Paris release, on the same label. Which features a Paris concert from the 1965 European tour. But that's one of I've got to check out too.
  9. I'd seen those kind of "headphones" in record shops back in the day, when you could sample records prior to buying them. But, honestly, I thought patrons were listening to two conversations at the time when I saw this. So two telephones. And it didn't dawn on me what they could be doing.
  10. No, never heard that one. But I'll seek it out.
  11. Yes, I had always seen it written Moré. So I assumed it was like this. And incidentally, he died the year I was born.
  12. One of the best examples of the French Sound. Whose main attraction was Daft Punk in the 90s, but there were also many more. Next year will be the 25 anniversary of the release of this one in 1998. And Air produced in 2005 or 6 555, the debut of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Serge and Jane Birkin's daughter. A very good album, by the way. Serge Gainsbourg being one of Air's big influences.
  13. I have an interesting collection I got recently of the period after this. From the mid 60s to the early 70s. It´s called Journeys in Modern Jazz: Britain. On Decca. Universal, I think.
  14. Oh, I didn't know about that one. A great combination, for sure. And seventies Brazilian stuff is fantastic.
  15. I just listened to this in Spotify yesterday on a list i have of him. I also listened to parts of Station to Station. The great Golden Years, for example.
  16. I had never figured out the drawings that are beneath the lion.
  17. This is one of my favorite Selects. And it's #1, so it all started here. And I love the Hutcherson, Moncur, McLean combination, which here comes to the fore so strongly.
  18. I think, but I'm almost sure, I once had Alpha Centauri, their second album, as a cassette back in the day.
  19. Oh, I remember that one. I had it on vinyl.
  20. If I remember well that's Global Communications. And I have it too.
  21. A very nice collection of pieces from soundtracks.
