Man steals $28 Million in diamonds

That must be the reason why none of my belgian colleagues show up at work today -
Le Monde Op-Ed on Record Dealers
Claude replied to brownie's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Thanks brownie! Both articles are somehow confusing, in that they say that dedicated record stores are menaced by supermarkets, iTunes and illegal filesharing, but fail to mention the competition from Amazon and other online stores. I think online purchases of CDs have much more impact on the decline of the traditional retail business than music downloads. -
It's a good thing when many data will be lost, as long as the essential data are being preserved. Imagine a sociology student in 100 years having to go through thousands of archived internet blogs and private videos in order to draw a picture of the society at the beginning of the 21st century. From our grand-grand parent who lived at the beginning of the 20th century, we usually have only a few portrait photos. With our digicams, we could leave a million private photos for our grand-grand children. Will they be interested in such a mass of boring daily life or holiday pics? We should learn how to make sure to preserve the important data, but also how to get rid of those that do not need to be saved for posterity.

Get the belgian TV studio recording on DVD. It looks great. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...=lk_organissimo http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=r6s...p;refQ=cat%3D24

I referred to "the other thread", but in fact it's on top of this page.

BTW, as Jim explained in the other thread, it's not even necessary to use the search function, which is quite limited. You can use the Organissimo shopping search link to select the store where you want to go (leave the search box blank), and then use the search function on the store website: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/aff_search.php I've bookmarked it as my starting point for online CD, DVD and book shopping.

All of the Jazz Door releases are boots (illegal releases), but most of their live recordings are of professional quality, usually made for radio broadcast.

It's a good album, but I never understood why it received a rosette in the Penguin Guide. Maybe as a sort of lifetime achievement award, like Scorcese's oscar for "The Departed".

Re: sad news, no commentary needed Hi, Why is this "news", and why is it sad? The decline of the rap/hip hop phenomenon has been going on for years. It's just a natural development in music, that people get fed up with a certain (rather limited) style, and they move on. Rap will never die, but it will merge into new styles. And I think that all the times in pop history, the influence of music and their lyrics on youth is highly overrated.

FS: 75+ Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab/DCC 24 kt Gold Discs

Hans was just expressing surprise, not satisfaction. How should we know why you are no longer registered? -
Agreed! Archie Shepp was at the peak of his powers in the mid to late 70's, both on the more introverted duo dates for Steeple Chase and the live recordings ("Steam" on Enja, Montreux One and Two on black lion, etc).
-
You should use the website form when ordering those sex guide books.

I received the status email today. All except one CD (Archie Shepp on Black Lion) are available. I hope they pack it right this time. In my last two orders, there was a problem with a missing (but billed) CD or a wrong CD. They fix the errors quickly (with a refund or coupon), but it's annoying.
-
It's a great concert. But I was disappointed by the fact that the sound is mono only (on both the stereo and 5.1 tracks), which is odd for a 2001 concert released on DVD. BTW, I reviewed the Archie Shepp DVD from the same label here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=32217

I like these bits of Fantasy K2 slipcases on your hat, Marcus

Yeah, you do scientific research on it

Wasn't this motivated by the japanese "LP reproduction" ideology (including reproduction of previous errors)?

What about this list, are these the Denon releases (or maybe repressings)? http://www.savoyjazz.com/sites/savoy/brows...Selection=title I agree that the Denon reissues sound great. Concerning the new reissues, I bought this 2003 "24bit remastered" version of Curtis Fuller "Blues-ette", and it is awfully maximised, with the bass sounding fat and distorted. I replaced it with a japanese reissue (not the Denon CD), which sounds very good.

It's obvious that the british critics were so happy about their national piano treasure that they didn't ask questions. Especially the piano concerto recordings (originally made by the Vienna Philharmonic and the L.A. Philharmonic, in their halls) should have raised doubts.

anybody else here using Windows Vista yet??
Claude replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I have tried XP and Vista when they came out (the XP final version that was preinstalled on my notebook and the public beta of Vista), but nothing could convince me to switch from Windows 2000 to the newer versions. Under the hood, there is nothing really new, and the added functionalites (firewall, multimedia, etc) are all available as better add-on software from third party makers. I also don't like the standard desktop looks of XP and Vista. So I'm still running Windows 2000 on my latest computers. However, for the less knowledgable people who don't want to spend a lot of time adding software and optimizing the system, Vista is a good package. But it's overpriced, so I would not upgrade to it but wait until the computer needs to be replaced. -
I think the musicians that were copied will actually benefit from the scandal, because many of them were hardly known and their recordings will now be reevaluated and maybe reissued. Who knew László Simon's Liszt recordings (released by BIS in 1987), before they were stolen by Barrington-Coupe? http://www.bis.se/bis_pages/bis_news.php

Thanks Flurin, Yes, I ordered some hatOLOGY discs, amongst other stuff.

They seem to be getting slow. I placed an order on Feb. 22 (evening), immediately received the automatic confirmation, but still no information update on my order so far.
