Thanks, I don't have toys at home, but I could hide money in some of my 4000 CDs' jewel cases My neighbour's appartment was burglared last year. She (an elderly woman) always keeps money at home. It was in an enveloppe on a desk. The burglar didn't take it, but he searched all the drawers of the desk. He also missed an expensive piece of jewelery that she had received the night before and that was lying open on table in a spare bedroom, whose door was open. The only thing he took was an old wedding ring of her parents, which had mainly emotional value and some very cheap jewelery. I never keep larger sums of money at home, but the idea of leaving a smaller sum for a burglar to go away quickly and not search the whole place seems like a good idea.

This quote attributed to Hatto now seems kind of ironic: http://www.musicweb-international.com/clas..._recordings.htm

Not really. "Thread crapping" is when somebody posts an opinion which is off-topic or suggests that the subject of the thread isn't worth discussing. So when someone opens a thread asking about the sound of a recording, and someone else answers that sound quality doesn't matter because the music is so great, that's "thread crapping", although the term may be too gross for what happened in this thread. BTW, we're still miles away from the discussions on the "other forum", where they are are comparing 43 different pressings of "Dark side of the moon" ...

I fully agree with that, as long as you don't write reviews in which you state that the new CD is the best sounding version. In that case you should have done comparisions beforehand, because some readers will rely on your judgement.

http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2458 Nice writing, but what does it say? I have the DCC version of this disc, and it doesn't sound muddy it all (nor does it sound bright). I've heard a few Prestige RVG editions, and some sounded too compressed indeed. Compression is something that some people with limited listening time or equipment often don't notice. It gets fatigueing in the long run. When it comes to the sound of reissues, I've found that commercial publications cannot be trusted. They ALWAYS prefer the newest editions. Maybe they cannot allow themselves to be critical about the sound, as their income depends on advertisement (notice that Audiophile Audition has a banner ad for the RVG series). When something's wrong with the sound, you'll have to read between the lines of the review to find it out. If a disc gets 3 stars for the sound (in a scale of 5), it means that it is unlistenable Audiophile Auditition has this typical american cheerleading reviewing style (which has now been taken over by the european hif press as well) which makes for entertaining reading, but is not useful as a buying guide (I know that hifi components should never be bought based on reviews alone). Every product gets a clear recommendation, it's only the degree of enthusiasm of the reviewer that varies. So every buyer of the product will be comforted in his purchasing decision. Jackie McLean - 4, 5, 6: http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2456 This album was previously (in 2001) reissued as a K2 remaster. A comparision between those 2 CDs would have been most useful. Sonny Rollins - Plus 4: http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2407 Better than the MFSL SACD? Reviewer John Henry at least tried to substantiate his claims with a listening comparision in his "Cookin'" review (but he was lacking the necessary editions of this session do do a proper A/B comparision): http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2392

I'll do my best I now use this link to do my shopping: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/aff_search.php

Jim, is there a referrer link for Amazon sites that can be clicked before doing a search on the Amazon site itself? Like with CD Universe. I´m currently buying lots of DVDs on Amazon.de and .co.uk , but I don't know how to search for them with the forum search mask, which seems to work with music items only. Or is it possible to do a random search to get the referrer credit and then switch to the movie search on the Amazon site? I would like to make Org benefit from these purchases, even if it takes a few more mouse clicks

I don't think any recording engineer recorded a session in a way to make it sound good on the playback equipment available at the time. What they did was change the sound during the mastering of the vinyl record. So the LP sounded different from the tape. Under these conditions, Hoffman is right to try to transfer the original recording tape to CD or LP as faithfully as possible, because the tape sounds closest to the actual recording, although it may differ from the sound that people can hear on the original pressings.

Depending on which OJC pressing you have, it may have been made from the same digital transfer used for the OJC CD and therefore include the same defects.

The italian store Jazzos is offering the complete Philology catalogue at a reasonable price (13.30€/CD). I haven't dealt with them yet. http://www.jazzos.com -

It's easier to find with the correct spelling of his last name (Moroder) -

This looks like a technical problem. An immediate email confirmation of an online order is required by e-commerce law, and Zweitausendeins sends those confirmations automatically. Usually a couple of days later, they send another email to inform about the status of the order (which items are not available, when they will be shipped, etc).

I'm currently getting some of the great sounding Classic Records DAD discs (DVDs with 24bit/96kHz sound), and this session is on my priority list. http://www.classicrecords.com/catalog/stor...fm?sku=DAD-1024

I think that with the recent vinyl revival, many hifi nuts (i.e. people who are willing to pay over $25 for a reissue of music that is also available much cheaper) listen to both vinyl and CD (or SACD), and as far as reissues go, they are looking for the best sounding version, which mainly depends on the quality of the tape transfer/remastering and not so much on the format. Given the poor remastering of many Blue Note CD reissues, the Classic Records LPs are an interesting alternative also for those who are not generally preferring vinyl, if they have a good vinyl playback setup.

I've been buying many "obscure" OJCs from my wishlist during the past year, to avoid this thing. Usually 3 CDs à $10 with free shipping to Europe at djangos.com . Many are now out of stock though (including "Olio")

Commerciallly sold data CDs with MP3 files have existed before, Zweitausendeins has offered MP3 pop and classical samplers as well as audio-books for the last 2 or 3 years: http://www.zweitausendeins.de/stoebern/?key=MP3 This is not a bad idea, since most DVD players and some CD players now play MP3s, and people can copy the files directly to their portable players, without conversion. Especially for audio books, where sound quality matters less, this saves a lot of space. They have the complete Bible on 8 MP3-CDs (90 hours, i.e. the content of 70 audio CDs)

I have the "Sunset eyes" CD too (found it cheap in a second hand store), listened to it and put it in my "for sale" drawer. I prefer his Contemporary albums.

I bought it from here: http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record_po...?record_id=4595 (of course it's not "Colour / Stereo") Shipping to the US is 8.5 Euro
