  1. I haven't noticed any problem with my old HatArt CDs (about 20 of them).
  2. BTW, the store Ludwig Beck in Munich (Marienplatz) where this CD comes from has a few dozen TOCJs (Blue Note Works) in stock, at very attractive prices (14-23 Euro). The price on that tag is in german Marks (46DM=23 Euro). I haven't seen any title from your wishlist though. http://www.onlybeck.de/index.html (online store is down currently)
  3. Recently? Those albums have been reissued on CD some years ago already.

    NHOP Has Died

There is already a discussion on this sad news: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=18821
  5. I have a driving license, but due to an eye disease I got aged 22 I never got to buy a car. Because of the permanently limited eyesight I cannot drive in the dark or on motorways. It wouldn't be worth getting a car just for doing shopping during the day, occasional weekend trips to the countryside, and I don't have a family yet to transport. The costs of owning a car are very high here. When I bought my appartment, a place in the parking lot would have cost an additional $30.000. As I live next to the center of the city, my daily life is not affected very much by the absence of a car. Public transport is quite good here. I sometimes take a taxi to return home after going out at night. Many times I just walk, and I enjoy that. For my regular shopping (food and other household items) I don't need a car, I can pass at a supermarket every day when returning from work. If I buy something larger such as furniture I ask it to be delivered to me or I ask a friend or my parents to drive me. I help them regularly with computer problems, so they do this to return a favor. My girlfriend doesn't drive either (although she has a driving license too), she says she feels too anxious at the wheel, and I really don't want to test that
  6. But some hooligans are so limited intellectually that they are unaware of the political and historic meaning of their slogans.
  7. If your PC is always online, you can also snipe for free without limits, with software installed on your PC. I use Bid-o-matic, which offers a lot of functions and is very reliable http://sourceforge.net/projects/bom/
  8. In my view the sound of the 24bit french RCA remasters is not that much improved compared to the previous CD versions (based on my A/B comparisions of Desmond and Sonny Rollins discs). It is mainly brighter. But you should definitely get the RCA First Edition reissues of "Two of a mind" and "Desmond Blue", which have been remastered from different tapes and sound considerably better than the previous CD versions.
  9. The material is from 1943-1949, which means it is in the public domain in Europe (50 years protection) but not in the US (70 years).
  10. I have only heard the CD, the sound is very poor.
  11. The Art Of Pepper - Omega Sessions: The Complete Master Takes (2 Unissued Tracks) (Definitive Records ) http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record_po...?record_id=3886
  12. That's a good idea, but if your MP3 encoder doesn't handle this well (which is often the case) you must make sure that the bitrate is reduced accordingly. If your preferred stereo bitrate is 192kbs, you can set the mono bitrate to 96kbs. In the Miles/Trane box set, the first disc and tracks 1-9 of disc 2 are mono (sessions A-C). The live sets are stereo.

  14. Check this site for news on scheduled CD reissues: http://jazzmatazz.home.att.net/upcomingcds.html (use browser "find on page" function to check for Blue Note titles)

    March 1st RVG

hey y'all, i am really serious about this. can anybody point out ANY difference in the new Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers RVG ant the previously issued non-RVG version (other than the liner notes addition?) help me out here!!!! Same here! I got the "Night Dreamer" RVG today (the US pressing) and did an A/B comparision with the 1987 McMaster CD. It sounds very similar. Almost nothing of the usual RVG remaster sound signature can be heard: brighter (noticeable on the cymbals), more transparence and "punch". In fact it's the McMaster that sounds a bit brighter and clearer, and I prefer it to the RVG. The only typical RVG caracteristics on the new CD is the slightly narrower stereo spread. For hose who have the earlier CD, it is not worth upgrading. This is the first time that I found a RVG to be inferior to a late 1980's Blue Note CD reissue.
  16. I've heard allmost all of Art Pepper's albums. My favourite recordings are the Contemporary and Pacific Jazz sessions. The Village Vanguard box is very good, but it would not be a first choice if you don't have any of the Contemporary albums.
  17. In my view c) is best, because it allows to read again through webmail (from a different computer) those mails that you have already downloaded to the main PC. But the time should not be too long, because the mailbox might be filled up if it is small and you receive large attachments. Setting the time to 8 days should not create problems. With any of the options, Outlook Express should not download emails twice, so there must be something wrong either in Outlook Express or on the mail server, as tjobbe has already indicated
  18. This contribution system is an excellent idea. The german experimental rock band Einstürzende Neubauten did this too: http://www.neubauten.org/details.php?PHPSE...bf6490bd5790f79 Maria Schneider is also financing her projects with contributions from fans: http://www.artistshare.com/artist_project_...D=6&selection=1
  19. I can understand Jazz Kat's question, because there is an irrational aura around Mosaic sets. Some people buy 8CD Mosaic sets of music they would not consider (even a single CD) if it was released on a different label. Four Freshmen

  21. All That Jazz - An All-star salute to Americas drinking music (Modern Drunkard Magazine)
  22. I think it's because of Marc Moulin himself, whose music has become very popular in the "lounge music" scene, and who has not recorded a lot (unlike Catherine) http://houbi.com/belpop/groups/moulin.htm Anyway, it takes just two crazy collectors to push any record to such price levels
  23. This must be a cult LP in Belgium: PLACEBO - MARC MOULIN LP 33T
  24. In the Opera options, Multimedia --> Page icons: "embedded icons and favicons" must be activated
