  1. Thanks for the lists, Michael. Most (maybe all) of the 8xxx titles seem to be sessions from the Timeless label.
  2. wolff, these comments by Steve Hoffman are interesting, but they are about Van Gelders recordings made for Prestige, not Blue Note. So they may not be that relevant, because RVG made the recordings for both labels sound different. AFAIK Hoffman only remastered mono tapes recorded by RVG for Prestige (Miles, Trane, Rollins), and no Blue Note session.
  3. I agree that McMaster's remasters don't sound great either. They are lacking dynamics. The most natural sounding Blue Note CDs I have are the TOCJs and MFSL remasterings. Their RVG counterparts (I had Blue Train and Somethin' Else for direct comparison) have boosted treble, without this adding more clarity. It could also be that this is how the tapes sound, and that the other remastering engineers compensated the overemphasized treble, but that's not very likely. The same is also true for the only non-Blue Note RVG remastering I know, the SACD version of A Love Supreme. I recently had a discussion with our friend GregM on that subject on the Steve Hoffman forum.
  4. In this case, the comparision is really about the remastering, and not the format. The first CD release of these recordings, remastered by Ron McMaster, sounded less bright too. Rudy tries to boost the cymbals sound on all of his RVG remasterings, for whatever reason.
  5. One option is Steinberg Wavelab 5
  6. I have no experience at all with standalone CD burners. How does one create tracks on the CD-R when recording a complete LP side? On a PC with a high quality sound card (starting at $150) and a CD burner, you can record and then edit the recording, not only to create tracks but also cut out pops and use an equalizer. It's much more flexible than a standalone recorder. One can also record at high resolution (24Bit/96kHz) and create DVD-As.

  8. "pillow fight" "give me a hummer" :rsly: "tongue" "turn into a man"
  9. "We Want Miles" is a compilation with tracks from three 1981 concerts: Boston 6/27 New York 7/5 Tokyo 10/4 If I have read the discography correctly, the only Tokyo track on "We Want Miles" is the short version of "Jean-Pierre" (3:56), which has been edited. So there is almost no duplication between both albums.
  10. Here's the complete "walkthrough". Have fun B-) beer blow me show me that ass get naked lick jump pushup cartwheel shoe bra sleep show playboy write laugh take off top car fight kiss the girl ass jiggle hair dance workout
  11. Are you using Internet Explorer? I've had these problems in some "IE-opimized" online forms when using Opera or Mozilla.
  12. I finally found "Trio+One", an OOP 1988 David Liebman album on Owl records, with Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette (and Carin Videntin on oboe on a few tracks). I had an Ebay search running on this CD, and after several months one showed up. But I was outbid at more than $20. This time, a seller had a couple of copies of the CD at a buy-it-now price of $8
  13. better than being a "stupid ass donkey moron who no like jazz"
  14. I have a Terratec 6fire 96/24 (150 Euro) that sounds very good and has unproblematic drivers. A big improvement over my previous Soundblaster Live card.
  15. The previous layout looked amateurish, like a website template from a $30 "Create your homepage in 10 minutes" package. So the looks are much better now. I also like their new numerical listing of sets. But there seem to be problems with the content. The Bennie Green Select is listed under the upcoming releases. I just noticed that they promise the "highest quality remastering" for the Mosaic Selects. Can I sue them for that? A good thing is their announced upcoming online photo collection.
  16. The Mic In won't work, it is too amplified and the frequency response is not flat. But every soundcard I've seen so far has a Line In.
  17. It's the complete (?) Tokyo October 4, 1981 concert from which there are tracks on the "We Want Miles" album. It seems that there also exists a video from this concert: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Sessions.aspx?s=811004
  18. On a PC, you can actually play several files at the same time, and listen to an entire album in just 15 minutes
  19. I don't know about the colors, but usually there are 4 connections (for example the Soundblaster Live cards): - Line out (for active speakers or a hifi set) ca be used for headphones too - Rear out for a second pair of speakers (many soundcards have surround sound for games) - Line in (to record from any line source, radio, CD player, etc) - Microphone in You can also connect your PC speakers and hifi set at the same time to the Line out, by using a minijack splitter.
  20. In my view both are similarly unlistenable. You have to get the earlier TOCJ release to be able to enjoy this recording on CD.
