  1. SECOND! Good for you.
  2. I did a search for "miles davis cellar door" on Red Trumpet and got TWO listings. One with List: $199.98/Sale: $129.99. The other with List: $54.98/Sale: $42.99. The expensive one is a Japanese import. Maybe that's what's showing up on Amazon...or not.
  3. I saw that price on Amazon, too. Freaked me out. I went ahead and "pre-d" () at CDU today. Spent the extra $1 ($7.99) for expedited shipping, too.
  4. FWIW, I've had bad experiences with shipping from them. Not their customer service (they've always been responsive and refunded me, when necessary), but it takes a LONG time to get the package - if at all.
  5. Just think of it this way........you can always sell it on ebay in a month or two for $300 (or MORE).
  6. But what's your point? ← Just trying to get back "on-topic".
  7. What's the deal with this AOL stuff? Check THIS one out: Andrew Hill Mosaic
  8. eMusic has it, too.
  9. Maybe it's time for a "Mosaic shipping issues" thread.
  10. BFrank, According to the CD Universe website, when you preorder they don't charge your credit card until they ship, so you're not out the money for a month and change. ← OK........that sounds good. I'll probably go ahead and do the "pre".
  11. I put it in my Wish List. Do you think they will send me a reminder when the release date gets closer?
  12. Sunday morning, Sept. 11 @ 8am PT, Clifford Brown Jr. will be hosting a special show on KCSM about his father. He describes it as ... "I share my father's life through conversation with his peers, friends, family and of course, his music. Should be pretty interesting. This station streams, so you can listen online.
  13. Yeah, just wait until you're in the mood for it, and you'll love it. This was my first Mosaic, and is still the one that I return to the most, but I still avoid it when I'm in one of those "no vocals" periods. But I've noticed that they hit less frequently now that I have this... ← The way I look at a large, "complete" set like this is that I can take my time listening to it. There is certainly no hurry to get through all 9 disks. This is an investment in "future enjoyment" as much as current $$. I could say that for all my Mosaics, actually.
  14. I have "Live in Detroit", too. Definitely a nice live set and the sound quality is excellent, as well.
  15. Yes. This is kinda scary - from AMG: During 1959-1960, Williams often played with Sam Rivers, and in December 1962 (when he was barely 17), the drummer moved to New York and played regularly with Jackie McLean. Within a few months he joined Miles Davis, where his ability to imply the beat while playing quite freely influenced and inspired the other musicians; together with Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter he was part of one of the great rhythm sections. Williams, who was 18 when he appeared on Eric Dolphy's classic Out to Lunch album, stayed with Davis into 1969, leading his own occasional sessions and becoming a household name in the jazz world.
  16. THAT'S cool!
  17. I don't know much about the rest of the select...but I USED to have "Bass On Top"...actually, one of my first Blue Notes...and I always loved it. ← The 3 clips on the site are terrific. I'll probably end up ordering this sooner rather than later.
  18. I keep thinking that I need to get his Mosaic Select set.
  19. I heard that part today, too. What a jerk.
  20. When most of these were first issued there was no choice. The long box was only created in the last year or so. Given the choice now, I still might go with the metal spine...but I would have second thoughts.
  21. Hey! That's EXACTLY what mine looks like!
  22. Well, sure! It's not a new addition, though.
  23. Monk In Paris: Live At The Olympia looks pretty excellent. I listened to the clips and the sound quality is very nice, too.
  24. In general, whenever jazzers covered 60s-70s rock/pop tunes I found them horribly embarrassing. I'll get around to Gerald eventually. I have too much to catch up on, anyway (e.g. Anita O'Day).
