  2. I have a real exciting album from the 70's by Hal Galper on Enja called "Now Hear This". It's a quartet album with Galper on piano, Hino - trumpet, Cecil McBee - bass and Tony Williams - drums. If anything, it sounds like a high energy McCoy Tyner album. If you can find it, get it. I don't know its availability, though.

  4. I saw "Broken Flowers". While I don't think it's necessarily one of his best, it's still miles ahead of most of the junk that gets released to the theaters every week.
  5. My Select arrived today. Can't wait to get home and listen to it tonight.
  6. I've been wondering about that myself. Couldn't figure out if it was because a lot of that music has been released since they went OOP, or what.

  8. I forgot about "Night On Earth". That one has a lot of interesting bits, too.

  10. Oddly enough, I think "Ghost Dog" is the only one of his films I haven't seen. He's always entertaining and his sense of space is VERY refreshing. Where most films try to cram as much action and/or dialog as possible into each minute, he let's everything flow at a much more realistic pace. Great, subtle sense of humor, too.

  15. My copy of "News for Lulu" has a slightly different cover - the photo (Louise Brooks only) takes up the entire cover rather than "letterboxed". Which is the original?

  17. That's really an understated and EXCELLENT set. Currently: Anita - disk #2.
  18. How does this album compare with "New York, New Sound"?
  19. I've had shipping problems with Collector's Choice. It seems to take several weeks for a delivery.
  20. Just ordered Tolliver today.
  21. Looks like prices for the Andrew Hill set are coming down, too: $193. A second Hill set sold for $255 a few days later, so maybe somebody just got lucky to score it for less than $200. Regardless of price, great music! I wonder if the price drop has anything to do with the recent re-releases of Judgment and Andrew? Or maybe not, as I recall seeing the Grant Green Mosaic selling for huge amounts of $, and I was under the impression that most (if not all) of the material on that set was easily available. ← I saw that Andrew Hill, too. Must be a lull in Mosaic OOP value. A Byrd/Adams just sold for LESS than retail and so did an Anita O'Day, recently.
  22. You should get "Curtis/Live", actually. It's an excellent album, and considered one of his best by many.
  23. Los Angeles???
  24. I forgot about the Roy Brooks version and that all-star lineup: Woody Shaw, George Coleman, Hugh Lawson and Cecil McBee. I grabbed a copy of that off of ebay in the last year for a reasonable price.
  25. Here's another thread that should give you a lot of ideas: San Francisco
