  1. I find the first session of the Byrd/Adams set different, as well. A very brittle sound, actually. Anybody else? The rest of the sessions are CLEAN, though!
  2. The original concept of the "Select" sets was like this. They were going to make a limited quantity of numbered sets available through Mosaic and then afterwards sell the same set with slightly different packaging, higher price and without numbers to the retail market. I think they have changed that strategy since the original roll-out, though.
  3. For them to refuse a sale, this thing must be FLYING out the door.
  4. FWIW, the copyright date is 2000. My Blue Mitchell set came in 4 single CD cases when I got it during the "Running Low" period last year. The B/A is in 2 doubles, like everyone else. It's an interesting point, because they would have to determine which format they are going to use ahead of time because of the CD case liner printing.
  5. Rhino Handmade is primarily a limited edition, collectors' label, too. Their prices are pretty much in line with Mosaic's.
  6. In many (if not all) cases, Mosaic has only "leased" the rights to publish the music from the original record company (Blue Note, Verve, etc.). Therefore, they only have a limited period of time that they are allowed to print and sell these sets.
  7. Wayne Kramer Rob Tyner Fred "Sonic" Smith
  8. I think it's been determined that they don't necessarily ship their sets in chronological order. So, it's hard to tell if they've really reached 5,000 or a time limit (5 years?).
  9. On Friday, jazzmessenger said that there were 185 sets left, so I think you're OK, Rooster. BTW, I'm LOVIN' this set!
  10. Speaking of Wilson arrangements, I highly recommend this album. 12 of the 17 tracks are arranged by Gerald and the rest by Oliver Nelson.
  11. Colin Powell Howell Raines Thurston Howell III
  12. #3031 just landed on my doorstep today. Spinning disk #1 now. I hope no one misses out on this before it's too late.
  13. Oh, yeahhhhhhhhhhhh. It's a fun one!
  14. Thanks, tooter. It was just a fluke, actually. I hadn't even noticed the discrepency in the Getz album - probably because I was familiar with the DeJohnette tune. Once you pointed it out, I went on a witch hunt through my records. As it turns out, the Compost album is right next to the Chick Corea albums that I was looking through. I haven't listened to it in years, but as soon as I saw it, something clicked in my mind, and I realized that's where that song came from. BTW, interesting story from Dave about Vortex.
  15. I've got one of them, though I can't recall if it's the Detroit show or another one. But I agree, excellent live recording with one of the best "you are there" sounds I've ever heard. I love the almost 40-year old crowd banter, but I almost wish they trimmed it a little bit. ← There were 40-year olds in the crowd???
  16. This really is a SMOKIN' album, BTW. + +
  17. Morrissey Andy Rourke Johnny Marr
  18. Yes. The last tune after "My Foolish Heart".
  19. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll make sure to steer clear of "Dave".
  20. It's working for me.
  21. I got it! I got it! It's a Jack DeJohnette tune called "Compost Festival" which I have on the "Life is Round" album by Compost. Compost was a short-lived, 70's jazz/rock/soul group formed by Jack with Bob Moses, Harold Vick, Jumma Santos and Jack Gregg.
  22. I didn't realize that there was an Other Voices/Full Circle CD, myself. Not sure if I need it as I don't listen to the LPs very often. But good to know that it's out there.
