Lynne did a nice job in that "Concert for George" show. His voice works really well on Harrison tunes.

A couple of friends of mine went to that Lobero (SB) show. They liked it......but they like him a lot anyway. Great to see that Fotheringay is being re-released this year. I wonder what kind of extra stuff will be there.

Hey guys.....it's John's Grill near Union Square. Still there......still a monument to Hammett and the Maltese Falcon. He actually lived on the corner for a period of time. If you decide to come in for it, maybe I'll meet you afterwards or something.

The only album of theirs that I thought was really interesting was the first one .... maybe because it was basically a Move album.

I'll be at that Mingus BB show (I hope). Do I need to get tickets in advance? I lived in NYC in the late 80's and never went to the BN once. It just seemed to slick (and as Pete said, expensive!). I went to Iridium 2 years ago, and didn't like that, either.

Absolutely, Lon. It doesn't look like any sort of bootleg, either......unless they're VERY good. It's not listed in the track listings in the booklet, either. For that matter, the BN website only shows the 7 tracks and the order is the same as mine. Then again......it also does NOT list track #4 on disk 2 - "When Sunny Gets Blue". Somebody call Michael C or RVG!

Friday is the Sam Rivers/Jason Moran/Reggie Workman show at the SF Jazz Festival.

Now THAT'S weird. The back cover of mine does NOT have that. It only shows the 7 tracks - not including "Theme (Pure de Funk)". I picked up mine at Amoeba. It didn't have shrink-wrap, but it did have the seal on top. I wonder if it is some kind of "early" reviewers' release, although there's nothing to indicate that - no cut spine or label of any sort. You think it's a collector's item?????????? B)

I get a laugh every time I drive by this in SF.

I got Roy Brooks' "Free Slave" in the mail today from my ebay purchase. Listened to it once all the way through. Sounds pretty smokin'. I'm just happy to get ANOTHER version of "Wil Pan's Walk". B)

I've got "Modern Dance" (original Blank 001 promo copy LP), "Tenement Years" and a solo thing called "Sound of the Sand" (w/Richard Thompson, among others) and I don't think I've listened to any of them all the way through. I'm convinced that they're great and Dave Thomas is probably a genius, but I've never been able to "get" their music. OTOH, I really appreciate their complete "unique-ality" (how's THAT for a word?). One of these days I will sit down and spend some time with this stuff. Honest!

I hear ya', Clint. I'll be picking up "American Song" sooner rather than later. You can count on that!

Hard question to answer. I bit the bullet, but everyone will have to make their own decision on that one. It's got nice packaging, too.

Anyone have Grace Slick's "Manhole"? ... I didn't think so. B) Same cast of characters. I guess it isn't very good, because I've had it since it came out and honestly don't remeber what any of the tunes sound like. [update: After reading the AMG Review, I may have to revisit this thing.]

Besides the appearance of "Wooden Ships", Volunteers has some of the vibe of the Crosby album. Pretty much the last good Jefferson Airplane album.

I like "Bodacious DF", too. Nice, straight-ahead Marin-style rock. I thought that 'Fillmore East' album was awful the first couple of times I heard it. The mix was bad and many of the vocals were REALLY off. The more I listened to it, though, the better it got. I think I was comparing it to the great "Bless It's Pointed Little Head", which is an incredible live album.

AB - My "Blows" is a 1987 mastering - "ancient" in CD years. Don't have a CD of "Sunfighter". While we're on it, "Baron Von Tollbooth" isn't all bad, either. Technically it's a Kantner/Slick/Freiberg album, not the Starship - but then again, neither is "Sunfighter" (Kantner/Slick).

Went on a Dashiell Hammett walking tour of SF today. I had done the same one over 20 years ago and the same guy is doing it. Pretty entertaining and definitely a workout. It's over 4 hours and plenty of hills, too. One of the highlights is a visit to one of Hammett's apartments, which also happens to be the same as Sam Spade's apartment in Maltese Falcon. The guy is a character and you get plenty of personal asides as well as info about other authors and general SF history. It's only $10, and you DEFINITELY get your money's worth. If you are in SF, it's worth checking out. Here's his web page: Don Herron
