This is one of Nat's that I always enjoyed - "A Little New York Midtown Music". Very suave and solid. A first-rate line-up as well: Johnny Griffin, Ron Carter, Victor Feldman and Roy McCurdy.

I went with Clifford, but George was pretty good on the original Eastern Rebellion album. Technically, did Clifford Jordan play with Eastern Rebellion at all? I thought the group was called The Magic Triangle at that time?

I really enjoyed the 2 Neneh Cherry albums that I have. I don't think she's done anything new in quite a while, but those are worth checking out. Of course, being Don Cherry's step-daughter doesn't hurt.

Interesting. Those were the two that I would have mentioned. I don't have a problem with him otherwise. I don't think the releases under his own name otherwise have been particularly interesting or innovative, though. He must be doing something right simply because of all the sessions he's been on.

What are you waiting for? For the players to come down in price? I bet you are a Vinyl guy as well, aren't you? Berigan - Fact of the matter is I really don't watch movies at home. I'm really not interested in all the "extra" crap that they throw on DVDs, either. I pay enought for HBO & Showtime that if I really want to see something at home, I will watch (or tape) something off of one of those - or IFC or Sundance or whatever. I really only use my VHS for taping weekly shows anyway. Nothing I need to keep or see more than once. So, there you go....... BTW, I do have lots of vinyl - but also tons of CDs and MP3's (from EMusic). That's where the REAL entertainment is! B)

Another one that I had forgotten about and just put on tonight by "accident" is Stanley Cowell's "Equipoise" on Galaxy. It's a GREAT trio date with Cecil and Roy Haynes. Unfortunately, I don't think this one has ever been on CD. It definitely deserves to be re-released. BTW, I just looked up that Roy Brooks album on AMG. That looks like a KILLER date! I'm not at all familiar with it. I'll have to keep my eyes open on the used shelves for that one (it must be OOP, right?)

I always liked that early Coryell stuff. "Spaces" is definitely a classic in my book. "Coryell" is not bad, but I really like "At the Village Gate" for some reason. It's really raw and sloppy, but there is a live energy there that appeals to me. Besides, he does a Jack Bruce tune from "Harmony Row" - who would EVER attempt to do that?? "Barefoot Boy" rocks - pure and simple. I used to really enjoy "Offering", but haven't listened to it in a long time and not sure how well it holds up. I'll have to give it a spin this weekend. "Equipoise" from 1985 is a surprisingly nice album from a period that I don't usually think about for Coryell. It's a quartet date with Stanley Cowell, Buster Williams and Billy Hart. The title tune is a great cut on ANY Cowell album and they do a nice job on "Joy Spring", too. Thanks for starting this thread, akanalog!

At least 2 that I know of - "Slugs" and "Destiny's Dance" (Chico Freeman). LOVE that tune! Amazing prices at Dusty Groove, too. Almost worth getting just to have a second copy. Thanks for the tip, Late. B)

Yep, David - that's the place! Great show!

This guy has a great BIG sound. Always brings something interesting to his appearances. I'm sure he's been on lots of albums, but he is definitely someone who deserves much wider recognition. I saw him last winter with McCoy, Hutcherson and DeJohnette. Quite a quartet and he was no small part of it. He was a great addition to the Tolliver groups of the 70's, too. Not many albums out under his name, but I've managed to grab a few. Right now I'm listening to "Compassion" (not available on CD, I don't think) which has a wonderful and moody title tune that takes up all of side 2. Filling out the sextet on this album are Joe Gardner, Chico Freeman, Dennis Moorman, Steve McCall and Don Moye. I also have on CD "Alternate Spaces" and "Unspoken". Grab 'em if you see 'em.

Speaking of Soderberg, I thought "The Limey" was one of the best films of the past several years. Definitely NOT a big hit, either.
