  1. So, how does it SOUND compared to the earlier release?
  2. This is VERY exciting. I would assume that the BNs would be there, but what else to fill out 3 CDs? Did they get licensing from Soul Note or Timeless? Is there unreleased BN stuff? That would REALLY make the set, if so.
  3. You know, I've still got the "Warehouse" LP, and still haven't listened to it very much. Certainly nowhere near as much as "Flip", "Candy" and "Zen". I have that "8 Miles High" 45, too. I always loved that tune and when that came out, it was great! Use to have a Sugar CD, but gave it up a while ago.
  4. Hey! Speak for yourself. I live here because it so RARELY gets hot. I like the cool weather. ... and the fog is GREAT. Bring it ON!
  5. Some more added today: Richard Groove Holmes - "On Basie's Bandstand" Oscar Peterson - "Dimensions" (4 Disks) Cal Tjader - "Cuban Fantasy" Several new vocal albums, too, from Mark Murphy, Carol Sloane, Curtis Stigers, Barbara Cook and Jo Stafford.

    BLOW UP on DVD

Whoa, Mike - - - - - chill out! I picked up the DVD myself, recently (it's one of my favorite films). I just haven't had the chance to pull it out and listen/watch yet. So, does it have a separate "music" only track that you can listen to like a CD, or is it the whole film with just the music (without dialog and other sounds) on the audio channel?
  7. There's this album listed under Coltrane's name, but it's really a group effort: "Interplay for 2 Trumpets and 2 Tenors" Here's Yanow's AMG review: Although generally reissued under John Coltrane's name, the most significant musician on this CD is pianist Mal Waldron who contributed four of the five complex compositions including the original version of "Soul Eyes"; Jimmy Heath's "C.T.A." is also performed. Coltrane teams up with fellow tenor Bobby Jaspar, trumpeters Idrees Sulieman and Webster Young, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Art Taylor and either Waldron or Red Garland on piano. With so many soloists present on this advanced hard bop date, Coltrane is only one star among many although he does emerge as the standout. — Scott Yanow
  8. eMusic just added this 4CD set: The Modern Jazz Quartet: The Complete Modern Jazz Quartet Prestige And Pablo Recordings
  9. JM, you have a MUCH better chance of enjoying your CDs than you do of winning the lottery! B) A wise investment.
  10. I thought this wasn't due out until the Fall, but I did a search here and it was in fact due to be released this month. So..........where is it??? Also, CD Universe notes that it has 3 bonus tracks. If it does, it's not the ones that they listed. Those are all on the "original" 2 CD set. It appears that they have re-ordered the tunes, though.
  11. Winwood was on "Dave" last night. He did "Cigano" from his latest album. It was smokin'!
  12. The Thad Jones is a great set. It grows on you. So if your first impression is muted, repeated listenings will bring out the gems here. I have seen this one going for less, but then again, you would have to wait indefinitely. ENJOY!
  13. Red Grape Sorbet 2 cups red grape juice ¾ cup sugar Juice of 2 lemons Heat 1 cup grape juice with sugar. Bring to boil. Cool, then mix in rest of grape juice and lemon juice. Refrigerate. When completely cold, freeze in ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  14. OK. OK. I'll look for it. It does have an interesting "cast of characters". B)
  15. I should probably check it out.
  16. Another ice cream......it may just be a West Coast thing, because they're located in Oakland. Dreyer's
  17. Which is better? OR
  18. Being left-handed, I use my left hand for just about everything!
  19. There's a Laserlight version of the live at the Village Vanguard set floading around. It's mis-labeled as being recorded in 1970, but it's actually the 1967 stuff. It might be easy to find in the remainder/used bins.
  20. How about that album "Spirit of '84"? They re-grouped and re-recorded all their hits and it kinda worked, actually.
  21. Exactamundo! It's hard for me to listen to Jimi covers. I've never picked up any of those albums.
  22. Here I am at a swingin' retro party last year. Check out these babes I picked up! Well..........actually, it is me - but about 40 years ago in Kansas City. These are my cousins, and one of them was getting married.
