  1. Sometimes a second-hand record store will give you a decent price on an entire collection.
  2. Hey! What's wrong with 42 MPG? I would get a Prius in a flash. It's definitely my next car. As mentioned previously, the Honda Insight is a s m a l l 2-seater, which explains the 60MPG. I've also heard that the Honda Civic hybrid doesn't get as good mileage as the Prius. It uses different technology which is not as efficient in the city. On top of everything else, I believe that there are tax breaks for hybrids, too.
  3. That Cobham album is a classic of sorts. Fusion-y, but not obnoxious. Currently: Cecil McBee w/Chico Freeman - "Compassion". The title tune is a MONSTER.
  4. This was a group that was DEFINITELY better than the individual parts, as we have seen since they broke up. None has done anything significant or interesting since. It's a shame, because the instrumental trio by itself was rock solid and probably could have continued on - even with another singer. "Hatful of Hollow" is a great album, for sure. Maybe their best overall.
  5. I somehow knew that the Mosaic would be a good catch - before it went OOP - even though I wasn't very familiar with his music. So I picked it up and glad that I did. A great collection, for sure.
  6. Speaking of Marshall Crenshaw..........amazingly, he's now touring as part of the current MC5 reunion tour.
  7. gdogus - Actually I like pretty much all of his stuff up until "Peggy Suicide" and have most of them on either vinyl or CD.
  8. Curtis Amy - "Katanga!" Joe Henderson - "The Kicker" Stan Getz/JJ Johnson - "At the Opera House" Andrew Hill - "Passing Ships" FZ - "The Grand Wazoo" Patti Smith - "Trampin'" "Floored Genius - The Best of Julian Cope and The Teardrop Explodes" [Traded in a bunch of stuff at Amoeba today]
  9. It would be MUCH better if BN went with eMusic rather than iTunes. Probably won't happen, though.
  10. I'm just wondering if it's going OOP now, just so they can re-release it as an RVG.
  11. Is it twenty dollars great? That's half a Select. Yes - it is a great set. It's also now OOP. I think it can still be found in retail outlets, though. Try to grab a copy, if you are a TV fan.
  12. If you were looking in a mirror and saw S S A L you might be surprised, too.
  13. Blue Mitchell - disk #2 Carmell Jones - disk #2
  14. The folk stuff is an "acquired" taste, for sure. It's taken me a while to get with it, but overall, it's not bad. Lots of Gerald Wilson here, too!
  15. My girlfriend picked it up last week. We haven't listened to it yet, though. It got some good reviews.
  16. Wasn't 1422 Buddy Bolden's address?
  17. There is the 70's ECM school of fusion: Terje Rypdal Eberhard Weber Pat Metheny John Abercrombie I almost forgot ... Larry Coryell: Barefoot Boy Offering Spaces (w/McLaughlin)
  18. Here's a few off the top of my head: Billy Cobham - "Spectrum" Tony Williams - "Emergency" Return to Forever - "Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy" Stan Getz - "Captain Marvel" Miles Davis - "Jack Johnson" Santana - "Caravanserai" Santana/McLaughlin - "Love Devotion Surrender"
  19. "Seven Steps" sounds AWESOME!
  20. My girlfriend just picked up his new album "Liars", which has had some very positive reviews. Haven't listened to it yet, though.
  21. There are some interesting free downloads on the Palmetto web site right here. Not the least of which are 2 tracks by Andrew described as follows: Andrew's "A Beautiful Day" live sessions involved a great deal of editing in order to be able to present all of the tunes on one CD. Here are the complete unedited versions of 2 pieces that are on the CD. There are a couple of tracks by Frank Kimbrough, too! B)
  22. There has been talk of a McCoy Tyner Mosaic for some time. I think that they are working on one for later this year or next year.
