That's too bad. I've been to a number of his concerts, to the point he would stop and chat a bit. Very personable. He could definitely bring it in performance. Last saw him at 2013 Vision Fest and he did not look or play like his usual self. RIP Roy.

Pete LaRoca, John Gilmore, Chick Corea, and Walter Booker. That's a nice group, and this is a nice album. So nice it's also been issued under Corea's name as "Bliss." The Douglas reissue vinyl is not so good.

CD Japan recommends the latter, and it cost me $14.00, which is rather steep. However, I thought the prices and availability mostly offset the shipping charge. YMMV. EDIT to respond to your other questions. If the item is stated as "In stock." it will ship out quickly. Estimate 3-7 days to arrive. If not in stock, and it says 3-7 days to supply, that could take a while. I waited for the item I dropped for 3 weeks before telling them to drop it, and ship the other 2. No import duty AFAIK.

SHIFT: Mats Gustafsson, on bari, with piano trio Correction. No Business LP. This works pretty well. Mats plays out but not outrageous (for Mats). Strange though, there were at least a few times that Mats' playing called to mind that of Evan Parker, despite the difference in instrumentation. BTW, the vinyl is pretty nice.

Since we are talking about Joe Henderson, I only listened to this album ("Barcelona" on Enja) recently, but I totally dug it. It's JH playing in almost free mode (and sometimes no-almost), especially on the long title track. As far as "State of the Tenor" I finally corralled both volumes on LP (I think I only had Vo. 1 ), and again, I thought the performance was really interesting, lots of in-out playing, and the sound did not bother me at all.

In July of last year, I got interested in Stanley Turrentine, sort of out of the blue, since I had not listened to him in several years IIRC. So in short order, I played "Another Story," "A Chip Off the Old Block," "Dearly Beloved," "Hustlin'," "The Spoiler," "Shirley Scott with Stanley Turrentine," and maybe one or two others. I really enjoyed listening to Stanley. I thought his tenor playing had some quirks or little "moves" that added interest, hard to describe better. It was a highly expressive style. Anyway, I found him more interesting, and more enjoyable, than I had previously.
