  1. mono signal played through both channels, but with the high frequencies attenuated in one channel, and the low frequencies attenuated in the other channel. It sounds like
  2. Ewwww, I mean they sound like they're...ewwwww....
  3. Whoa, after that first song I started to jump up but then remembered I'm playing Lps now, not 45s...
  4. Eagles - 1st album - Side 2 "Train Leaves Here This Morning" - smooooooth and warrrrrrrrmmmm.
  5. Are these needledrops?
  6. What's the extra material on the domestic cd?
  7. It's morning-time, so I'm rockin' my sweetie as she gets ready...my usual morning routine... Today I'm spinnin' 45s.... Right now: Ready For The World - Oh Sheila Thumpin'! Earlier: Rod Stewart - Crazy 'Bout Her I dedicated it to her... heh...
  8. Yep, I hate the reverb he used on his 50's recordings at Hackensack. It practially ruins the Blue Train date for me. And a couple days ago I was listening to the 2cd Conn set of Introducing Kenny Burrell. On his first album date, on that song, is it "Takeela" or "Rhythmorama"? The part towards the end where Candido Camero and Kenny Clarke go into a percussion break...hell, it was pinging and whooshing all over the place! Sounded like shit! And there was some piece of equipment in his chain that caused an oscillating sound in the reverb...I hate it, hate it, hate it! Listen to Lee Morgan's and Curtis Fuller's solos on Blue Train. Arrggghhhh!!!!
  9. It'll just sound not quite right... So, should we give you examples of cds/lps with fake stereo? mmmmm.... On the Capitol cd of Pink Floyd's "Works" there are fake stereo mixes of "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play." Got a copy of that? Cuz that's a good example...
  10. Charles Lloyd - Discovery! - Columbia
  11. Keith Jarrett - The Survivor's Suite - ECM this one is sprinkled with German fairy dust...it sounds like they're in the room with me...
  12. Pat Metheny Group - ECM Is ECM vinyl dipped in fairy dust? Cuz they usually sound just superb.
  13. Barry Harris - Tokyo 76 - Xanadu 99 cents!!!
  14. Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz - Verve V-8535 - Mono reissue with different cover...surely a 60's pressing... though slightly warped, vinyl plays just great when clamped and the cover is close to perfect, not that this redone cover is anything to write home about...
  15. Yep, that's right chewy-chew-chew...they've been doing it for several years now. They're fucking expensive though...and it takes a bit of effort to get a cdr from 'em...
  16. Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward whoa...this is what I've been missing...for years... Kinda cool to be discovering them now...
  17. There's this poster on a different board whose signature line reads: CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE-CONTROL FOR COOL! Press Alt-F4 to found out more!
  18. Thanks for sharing that, Kevin. Very personal...wow... You're lucky to have had him. As someone who never had a father, I can only imagine how cool it must have been to have someone to teach you stuff. I'm real sorry for you. Hang in there.
  19. As far as your concern about getting the most out of these mono records from Classic (or any mono record for that matter) without a mono cart or mono switch on your amp: The trick is to go to Radio Shack and get two Y cords. This will allow you to collapse the signal. I'll do this for serious listening and definitely when doing a needledrop. Works great! (My receiver has no mono switch either...)
  20. That ain't no record-player. That most definitely is a turntable. A record-player is like a Close 'n Play.
  21. PM sent on the Lacy, 2 Rollins & Moncur.
  22. John Coltrane - "The Believer." from the Prestige mid-70's two-fer "Black Pearls."
  23. I'm really only referring to the "Blue Note Sound" which were ususally Alfred Lion. As far as other labels and producers, I do not know.
  24. Just finished a needledrop of "The Piper At The Gates of Dawn" by The Pink Floyd...from the UK 2 Lp "A Nice Pair." Incredible... For timing reasons I had to choose something short and sweet. So I'm putting on behind Piper a buddy's copy of "1984" by Van Halen. Now playing "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks. From "A Compleat Collection, 20th Anniversary Edition". God I love this song...
  25. I believe the differences were in eq, reverb, & microphone placement.
