  1. MIA!!! Come back Grey, even if you don't have anything for us. You're missed!
  2. My Morgan/Shorter VeeJay set: #1897! Right between SS1 and Sangrey. Hangin' with my buds!
  3. PM sent regarding Giant Steps!
  4. wesbed, Please post your impressions of these albums one you've listened. I'm already sure about the Lateef, but would like some feedback on the others. Enjoy!
  5. Yep Rainy Day, you won't find me there. Thanks everyone, for the birthday cheer! It was a great day. Steaks came out great. Nice evening chillin' with the wife and doggie. In the box was... Big John Patton Oh man! This is great stuff! Nice 'n greasy, just like we like. Listening to "The Way I Feel" set right now. Also in the box... Gerry Mulligan CJB Mosaic! Listened to disc 1 while cooking din-din. Beautiful! And the sound is another top-notch Addey job. Also purchased, but missing from the box, Curtis Amy Select. My wife hadn't opened the shipping box until Monday afternoon. When she discovered Amy was missing, she called Mosaic and spoke with Cindy, who said they would have one sent out immediately. So, as you can see, AWESOME birthday!!! And all of you certainly contributed to it being so wonderful. Thanks everyone!
  6. The latest Lee for me: S'Make It - with the Jazz Messengers. (Verve LPR)
  7. That one is tasty indeed. It was a late, and pleasant discovery for me. B)
  8. Also add: Jackie McLean Mosaic set B) Which I was spinnin' this mornin', but nothing with Lee. Just the Right Now set.
  9. Awww, you guys... Thanks Hans, and everybody. You guys are great! (Big smile on my face) A couple boxes have arrived here in the last week or so. From...MOSAIC RECORDS!!! Actually, one of them I ordered, the day after Memorial Day...the Morgan/Shorter VeeJay set. It's been in the house a couple of weeks. I've just been trying not to think about it. And then another box from MOSAIC arrived last Friday. Oh boy, oh boy!!! My wonderful wife... And yesterday at the Denver Tower Records store, I found the recent Charlie Parker Complete Verve Master Takes set, barely used, for $28.99! Man what a beautiful set! And anything mastered by Bob Irwin... ---------------------------------- Thanks again Gang! I've got some New York strips marinating for the grill tonight. Some Crown Royal in the bar... B) I'm as happy as a pig in....you know what.
  10. Hey Hank/James, I received Bossa Nova Soul Samba & New Wine In Old Bottles the other day; thanks a million! I'm diggin' the shit out of BNSS. What a beautiful groove, and a fantastic recording. RVG's remastering of this one is one of his good ones! Super warm and yummy. Both discs were in beautiful shape. Couldn't be happier!
  11. Can't leave the house...???
  12. I picked up S'Make It the other day and have been enjoying it immensely. Had no idea about Gilmore solos being excised. (Just found this thread). Lee's solos are great, IMO. Masterful! I love the sound on this cd. Another great job from Sundazed studios. (I also picked up Gloria Coleman's "Soul Sisters". Man, you guys weren't kidding on this one. These ladies cook! )
  13. Mine came last week, but I don't get to open it until my birthday later this month. I'll post the # then.
  14. I think that's exactly it: It depends on how you started listening to jazz. Both TonyM and DrJ admit to having begun their jazz listening with Ornette!! In my own self-paced "jazz education", I started with modern jazz, but not anything outside. Ornette and Dolphy were VERY DIFFERENT for me, when I first encountered them. Can't say I yet fully appreciate Dolphy. -_-
  15. Same could be said for my avatar... First time I listened to it: Now it's: B)
  16. You have to have a lot of listening under yer belt to get your ears around something like "Conquistador!". Not for beginners...
  17. That Blues For Lou on half.com is no longer available...
  18. PM sent re: Detroit/NY Jct.
  19. Something I did recently to create more space was to put all the cds that were from boxed sets BACK into their boxes. A lot of them were just filed in with the regular cds and the boxes were in storage. But now I have an area just for the boxes. It actually ended up creating a lot of space.
  20. I waded into my newly acquired JJ set. The two versions of Aquarius just knocked me out!!! I'm not quite sure which is better. (I've a hunch it's the shorter, issued version.) Just beautiful!
  21. How nice of you to order one, then. B)
  22. This morning: One of the last Morgan/Shorter VeeJay sets! mini-lps of Soul Samba and New Wine In Old Bottles from forum "pal to everyone" Hank. ( me mini-lps ).
  23. I think you will... I'm sure you're right, my friend.
