Music like Chris Botti's makes me wonder: How can a jazz player make music these days that's not avant garde/free but still not be considered smooth jazz? At what point does it become "smooth jazz"? How can jazz be made nowadays that is soft and contemplative without being "smooth"? Is what Sting is doing considered smooth jazz? Or adult contemporary on a jazz tip? -------------------------------------------------------------- Another example: Beyond The Missouri Sky by Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny Is this smooth jazz? If not, why? P.S. Looking at the word "smooth" too long makes it look like a weird word!?!? Or is that just me?
  2. I'm glad you're okay, Jan. Whew! That was a close one!
  3. Email sent re: Free For All Thanks!

  9. Dr. J/Tony, That Rollins Prestige box just went on "Clearance" at BMG music club. IIRC, it was $27 plus s/h.
  10. Oops, late to the party. Happy belated-Birthday, UA! Hope it was great.
  11. Hope it's a great one, Shawn!
  12. Happy Birthday bud!!! Hopefully things will pick up for you and the missus. P.S. I discovered just yesterday, who "jazzbo" really is! He's a crazy, blowin', honkin' saxman!
  13. You know, I haven't really done any direct comparisons but that version of "People" off of the Talkin' 'Bout session just totally gives me goosebumps on the Mosaic set. This does not happen for me on the 24bit McMaster. Actually, I gifted it to someone... B) Great set, sure wish I had a box and booklet...
  14. Best wishes on yer Birthday! Have a great day, Gary.

  16. Howdy Sheldon, I'd also recommend listing them over at the Steve Hoffman bulletin board. Those guys over there are HUGE rock/pop fans of the eras you mention. They'll treat you fairly, probably even help you with determining values. However, to post in their Classifieds you must have at least 10 posts. Not really that many when you think about it. Just check out their active topics or the archive and you'll probably find something to want to discuss with them. I have no turntable, so I won't be buying any but I wish you the best of luck!
  17. Isn't most of the stuff from these questionable Euro releases all collected on the Live Eureopean Tours box? If not, what's missing?
  18. Another big thumbs up for "Togetherness." That one just takes me away...
  19. Happy birthday buddy! Hope it was great. I guess it was, you haven't been in here!
  20. PM sent. I need a sammich!
  21. No, mine don't stay in shrink-wrap for very long. If not the same day, then within the next few. Larger Mosaics sets take longer, of course!
