  3. Disk two today, it really is my favorite Mosaic..... ahem..... it's also my only one
  4. The Mariners are looking a lot better right now. I can't believe how bad Adrain Beltre is hitting though. .500 baseball doesn't look like an impossibility.
  5. Hey, the M's rule!!!!! Let us wollow in the glory of the moment! King Felix wasn't that great last night but he'll improve with more innings.
  6. I get most of my books through Amazon.com, will they credit Organissimo for those?
  7. The two best twenty year-old baseball players I ever saw play: Doc & Cesar Cedeno. Both threw away their talent.
  8. See where Dwight Gooden received a year-and-one-day jail term. What a sad waste of talent. TAMPA, Fla. -- Former baseball star Dwight Gooden was sentenced Wednesday to a year and a day in prison for violating probation by using cocaine. The 41-year-old pitcher was serving three years of probation for speeding away from a police officer during a drunken driving stop. He admitted last month to a probation officer that he had used cocaine. As part of his probation, Gooden had been ordered to stay away from alcohol, drugs and bars, and to submit to a minimum of three random urine tests a week. He also spent two months in an inpatient treatment facility for alcohol and drug addiction. Gooden was the 1984 Rookie of the Year and 1985 NL Cy Young winner while with the New York Mets. He went 194-112 with a 3.51 ERA before retiring in 2001. He also pitched for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. During his playing days, Gooden was suspended for 60 days in 1994 for testing positive for cocaine while with the Mets. He tested positive for cocaine again while on suspension and was sidelined for the 1995 season.
  9. Broke down and bought Billie Holiday: The Complete Verve Master Takes from Yourmusic. Price is just too good to pass on.
  10. The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions. I can't express how much I love this set. Music from heaven. It's always been my favorite Mosaic.
  11. Just starting to get into David Halberstam's The Best and the Brightest. Scary how the same mistakes are occuring now as in the past. Forward into the past I guess. Also saving two Eric Ambler's for my week vacation in April (waiting in airports and on airplanes): The Light of Day & Passage of Arms. I'm hooked on Ambler for some reason.
  12. I've been thinking about getting this from Yourmusic, and you're making harder to say no.....
  13. Bring this up for air. Anyone have any thoughts on this set now that it's out? Sound quality? Booklet? Thinking of getting this soon (CD Universe, of course!). on the edit: Is this box set legit? I saw it a Tower Records in Seattle recently.
  14. The Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band Glenn Miller is so cool.
  15. The Complete Glenn Miller. Bluebird's 13 cd box for $38.50 off Ebay.
  16. Heck, now Bonds is 7-9 in spring training, couple of dingers. I don't think he'll go quietly in the night this year. I will be interesting to see if he can play in the outfield at all -- he just might wind up on firstbase.
  17. After I recommended The Sign of Jonas, I decided to read it myself and found that I was turned off by Merton's constant stream of camplaining -- it rubbed me the wrong way this time. I still find the section after his ordination interesting, with the "Fire Watch" being one of the better things he wrote. I'll have to get the Journals one of these days. PS: Hi, I just took a break from the Big O for awhile.....
  18. Been going through Powell's Blue Note Recordings, any new word on this bio, or is it looking like 2007?
  19. Eric Ambler's: A Coffin for Dimitios. About the fourth time I've read this one -- very enjoyable.
  20. Rock. In fact, I'm finding with each passing month I'm listening to less and less jazz.
  21. I'm trying -- is it from "Apple Venus" vol. one, I want to say the "Is this how you spell...." song? I looked it up and YIKES! I was waaaaaaaay off.
  22. I'm trying -- is it from "Apple Venus" vol. one, I want to say the "Is this how you spell...." song?
  23. It's a cool song! To say I've been on a major XTC binge the past eight months is an understatement! I really love everything they've done and with each listen of a cd I catch more in the music and lyrics. Andy Partridge has captured my imagination as an artist and songwriter like few other rock artists ever have, just amazing stuff he comes out with. Last week all six volumes of Fuzzy Warble finally made it across the pond to make my XTC collection complete. There are to be two more Fuzzies to be released sometime this year. It's all quirky, British, pop heaven.
