  1. It's the eleventh commandment: Thou shall nominate Pat Metheny and Wynton Marsalis whenever the word jazz appears.
  2. Just a bad move by the Blue. Sadly enough, Jim Tracy would be a better manager with the current GM than Little. Worst managerial hire for the Dodgers since Davey Johnson. Well, at least Davey sat back and did nothing for two years, don't think Little will do that. What a come down for the Dodgers, (who I've been following since growing up in San Diego), the days of Walt Alston and Tommy Lasorda are long gone.
  3. Good thread for me because I've been thinking of starting to buy some KC cds. I have a japanesse import of "In the Court" but the sound is muffled. Are the 30th anniversary remasters the way to go?
  4. That would be sweet, it would also take some of the heat off Felix Hernandez and let him develop without the pressure of being the main man at 20. But WTH are the Dodgers thinking signing Wells? The guy can breakdown any moment, especially when he's carrying the keg.
  5. The 30th Anniversary Edition lp of Darkside of the Moon is very good. As for the rest, any used lp in mint condition from around the time of release is going to sound excellent. MSFL's are out there of course, but to my ears, original lps are just as good, and cheaper -- there's millions of them around. Pink Floyd is so cool.
  6. Actually, I like the idea of ARod in center.. He as a better arm that Jeter, and the Yankee suck-ups can go into nirvana saying how "ARod enters the long line of Yankee greats in centefieldr, Dimaggio, Mantle, Bobby Mercer. Centerfield at Yankee Stadium is the most difficult outfield position in baseball because of the wide expanse of grass, blah, blah, blah..." It's nice that even in the winter I can still hate the Yankee's.
  7. Oh happy day! Seriously though, no SACDS?
  8. I’ve just finished reading Walter Harding’s The Days of Henry Thoreau, and it is a great biography, it shows Thoreau in all his complexity. It also reminded me what a social person Thoreau was in his lifetime, how devoted his friends were to him, especially in his final illness. Interesting section on Thoreau’s relationship with John Brown, and his reaction to Brown’s execution – Thoreau burned with indignation and wrote some of his most powerful essays in response. My favorite new quote from Thoreau is his response to James Russell Lowell taking out this sentence from Thoreau’s essay in the Atlantic Monthly: “It [a pine tree] is as immortal as I am, and perchance will go to as high a heaven, there to tower above me still.” Thoreau wrote to Russell a letter, in which this sentence appears: I could excuse a man who was afraid of an uplifted fist, but if one habitually manifests fear at the utterance of a sincere thought, I must think that his life is a kind of nightmare continued into broad daylight. Ouch! On to Thoreau’s journals now.
  9. It'll be interesting to see what the loss of Leo Mazzone will mean for the Braves, the Mets just might take the division this year, which would be great -- I'm tired of the Braves' flaming out every October.
  10. Exactly! That's why he's gonna be a Mariner next season. Guess Carlos realized that it was a no-win situation if he didn't stand in New York.. NEW YORK -- Now that he's been traded to the New York Mets, Carlos Delgado says he is willing to stand on the field during the playing of "God Bless America." After putting on a Mets jersey at a Shea Stadium news conference Monday, Delgado said he spoke about his anti-war protest with New York chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon. "I gave him my views on that subject and I also said I would not put myself in front of the team," Delgado said. "The Mets have a policy that everybody should stand for 'God Bless America' and I will be there. I will not cause any distractions to the ballclub." While playing for the Toronto Blue Jays and then with the Florida Marlins last year, Delgado avoided standing on the field when "God Bless America" was played, staying in the dugout, runway or clubhouse. "The reason why I didn't stand for 'God Bless America' was because I didn't like the way they tied 'God Bless America' and 9-11 to the war in Iraq, in baseball," he said when he joined the Marlins in January. Wilpon said the matter had been discussed during negotiations when Delgado was a free agent after the 2004 season. Wilpon said Delgado promised to follow whatever policy was set by manager Willie Randolph. "His comment was: If Willie and the Mets have rules, he will follow the team rule," Wilpon said Monday. "He's not going to put himself before the team. So he's going to have his own political views, which he's going to keep to himself." Delgado said there will be a transition for New York fans and their feelings about him. "I'm sure there are going to be times where they're going to cheer, I'm sure they're going to be times when they're going to boo," he said. BTW: I'm sooooo tired of football, bring on spring training
  11. B&B counts if this counts: Pink Floyd: The Wall DVD -- 25th Anniversary Edition
  12. Does this model need a tv screen as a display for the adjustments etc.? After playing around with the Denon for a week or so, it does look like you have to hook it up to a tv if you want anything other than default settings. I'm using straight stereo right now, though I might think of getting surround sound later on if the mood strikes me.
  13. Went today to Best Buy to get Pink Floyd's: Wish You Were Here, for some reason, I just had to have this today. It wasn't too bad, it's pouring down rain here in Snohomish County, so it kept the crowds down.
  14. Well here's a damper for Red Sox Nation: Boy, I knew salaries were high!!!!
  15. I see where Seattle has signed Kenji Johjima, a catcher from Japan, to the club. Well, the Mariner's played seven catchers last year, hopefully this will work out for them; however, Johjima is coming off a broken leg, which, for a catcher, is not good news. Bavasi needs to spend some cash on pitching or it's going to be another long year for Seattle.
  16. It does play DuelDisks, I've played Brothers in Arms & American Beauty today.
  17. I've had THESE for three years and they give very good, bang-for-the-buck, sound. I have a NAD C320BEE integrated amp and it works well with these speakers.
  18. Vibes: I don't have duel disk at the moment, though I plan on buying the dd of Kind of Blue, since I hear the sound is outstanding. I'll let you know in a couple of days. Mike: I'm finding the led on the unit is telling what I need to know. I'm using this solely for sacd/dvd-a, and not hooking it up to my tv. So far (crossing my fingers hoping it doesn't flame-out in a month) it's producing spectacular sound for my system. Been playing the Fantasy cd/sacd hybrids, and some Sony single layers -- Darkside of the Moon was major cool
  19. Ordered this while on vacation, finally come home Thursday and have been playing SACD's since, and the sound, really and truly, is amazing. Plays the DVD-A very good also. Happy with my purchase and looking forward to more SACD & DVD-A to listen to.
  20. This might seem far-fetched, but the Dodgers are in desperate need at third base -- why not Nomar? Sign him at a cut-rate price, loaded with incentives, it might turn out better than at first glance.
  21. The Concord Saunterer: Special Walden Sesquincentennial Issue: Walden the Place and Walden the Book. A wonderful collection of essays published by The Thoreau Society to mark the 150th anniversary of Walden. It's amazing to read the continuing impact of this book in today's world.
  22. I also joined a couple of days ago, and was able to get some Fantasy sacd hybreds at 5.99, which is at least 75% off regular price. I hope this all lasts for a long time.
