Wes Montgomery: Smokin' at the Holf Note. My first Montgomery cd.

Eric Ambler: Cause for Alarm. Must say I was rather disappointed with this one; Ambler put together the elements for a great crime novel here: good characters, challenging situation, pre-WWII, but then does nothing with them, they just kind of hang around until the end. Mark this one as a great book missed because Ambler didn't take any chances here, just played it safe.

Month after month, that Simone program is in the top 5 list of most-hits for archived Night Lights shows. "Here Comes the Sun: Nina Simone on RCA" is now archived. As well as it should, you put together an outstanding program for the first one -- I'll be sure to make time tomarrow to listen to the new one. Great show! Didn't know she wrote a song with Langston Hughes. You just cost me money as I went over to Yourmusic.com and ordered all the cds they have for her.

Doesn't look like it, received word this morning that the set is being mailed today.

A 50 cent piece will give you much better sound, cheap-skate!

My system: Tuner: NAD c420 Digital Front End: Denon 2910 & NAD c541i Amplification: NAD C 320BEE Speaker System: Dynaudio Audience 52 It works well for me since I don't listen to music in a large room. The speakers are very good, and for some reason, brass instruments sound cystal clear. I bought the Denon about six months ago and I use it mostly for SACDs, though, if I had it to do over again, I think I should have stayed with just the NAD c541i, which is an excellent on redbook & HDCD. SACDs are nice, but the price is so high I don't buy that many.

I decided to order the J.J. set this morning, my first Mosaic box set purchase in three years. After three years of buying nothing from Mosaic, this week I bought all the singles and now this one. Yikes! What's happening to me.
-
Well, I closed my eyes and ordered all of these this morning. I really like the idea behind the "Mosaic Single CD" idea, gives Mosaic a lot of flexibility in what they can release. Now, if they would start to release some of Braxton's Arista records, now that would be great.

I always find Old such an interesting song, it has an unique quality that is hard to describe -- it's one of Mitchell's best works. Come to think about it, Oh Susanna is another take on the old/new angle that is hard to beat.

The Mariners are looking a lot better right now. I can't believe how bad Adrain Beltre is hitting though. .500 baseball doesn't look like an impossibility.

Dwight Gooden Sentenced to Year in Prison
Matthew replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The two best twenty year-old baseball players I ever saw play: Doc & Cesar Cedeno. Both threw away their talent. -
See where Dwight Gooden received a year-and-one-day jail term. What a sad waste of talent. TAMPA, Fla. -- Former baseball star Dwight Gooden was sentenced Wednesday to a year and a day in prison for violating probation by using cocaine. The 41-year-old pitcher was serving three years of probation for speeding away from a police officer during a drunken driving stop. He admitted last month to a probation officer that he had used cocaine. As part of his probation, Gooden had been ordered to stay away from alcohol, drugs and bars, and to submit to a minimum of three random urine tests a week. He also spent two months in an inpatient treatment facility for alcohol and drug addiction. Gooden was the 1984 Rookie of the Year and 1985 NL Cy Young winner while with the New York Mets. He went 194-112 with a 3.51 ERA before retiring in 2001. He also pitched for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. During his playing days, Gooden was suspended for 60 days in 1994 for testing positive for cocaine while with the Mets. He tested positive for cocaine again while on suspension and was sidelined for the 1995 season.

The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions. I can't express how much I love this set. Music from heaven. It's always been my favorite Mosaic. -
Just starting to get into David Halberstam's The Best and the Brightest. Scary how the same mistakes are occuring now as in the past. Forward into the past I guess. Also saving two Eric Ambler's for my week vacation in April (waiting in airports and on airplanes): The Light of Day & Passage of Arms. I'm hooked on Ambler for some reason.

I've been thinking about getting this from Yourmusic, and you're making harder to say no.....
