  1. This just in from the San Francisco Giants Ministry Of Propaganda: It's the heat.....
  2. I wonder if when the big B & M stores go down, whether that might mean an opening for a comeback to the individual owned store -- maybe I'm wishing on a star on that one.
  3. You need to go to Amazon.com, and download the Kindle program to your computer (it has both pc & Mac programs), then you can download all you books to your computer. At least that's how I did it.
  4. To not like Spinal Tap? How is that possible?
  5. Four Hall of Famers played in that game, not too bad for a first game. You missed one as thanks to the Vets Committee Nellie Fox got in. (He was camouflaged by playing at 3rd). It's kind of odd how the Astros had 2 Hall Of Famers at 2nd yet both of their primes were elsewhere. Biggio will fix that. I had completely forgot about Fox, I never think of him as a HofF type of player. So five in Jim's first game, not bad at all.....

  7. Good point. Musta missed that one. Paul must be WAY old I am way old, but I never went to Ebbets Field. Must have been someone else who posted that. Sorry! It was MartyJazz (I looked it up), he made the comment about listening to Vin Scully announcing the Brooklyn Dodgers as a kid -- he was a Yankee fan though
  8. I went to the site Soulstation used, then went to the team page, then clicked on my team (San Diego Padres), then clicked on the schedule, which show each game for every year, then clicked on the game I went to, and it has the box score. Hope that makes sense
  9. Didn't Paul Secor mention he went to Ebbets Field? He probably has us all beat.
  10. You're f'n up the rotation, man! Puff, puff, give!
  11. Very cool. I have you beat by ten years. My first MLB game PS: I just realized after I posted this: that makes for 43 years of attending baseball games --- Yikes! I'm old!!!
  12. I know a lot of people don't take anything on the KUDU label too seriously, but Johnny Hammond's Higher Ground is a great funky & greazy album. It has the usual CTI / KUDU suspects: Bob James, George Benson, Hank Crawford, but it also has some interesting additions -- Joe Henderson, Jack Dejohnette, and Steve Gadd. Good arrangements, fine playing, with one of my favorites being Summertime / The Ghetto. Worth checking out if you come across it in the cd bins.
  13. Is not the whole purpose of a "Mandated Reporter" is that you are to report to the police, not to your supervisor alone? That's always been my understanding, and I've always told my employees that also -- that it is not me who makes the determination whether you report or not to the police, that the person is required by law to file a report themselves. I could be wrong....
  14. Happy Birthday FOB, I really enjoy your writing.
  15. The games of the knockout rounds have been disappointing to me, these 0-0 games, then penalty kicks to decide a winner, are pretty lame in my book -- though what to do instead of pk's, I have no idea. And Portugal, how can you have CR not take that fourth penalty?
  16. Johnny Hammond: Higher Ground
  17. Dashiell Hammett: Crime Stories & Other Writings (LOA). Enjoying this very much, the only Hammett I read before was the Maltese Falcon.
  18. Wonder where Brandon Roy will wind up, and if he will be any good. Dallas seems to be in the running, along with Da Bulls. Chicago might make the most sense, Roy can come off the bench to fill-in for Rose, and wind up playing 12 minutes a game, and also being on the floor for the last five minutes of the game would give the Bulls a real scoring option outside of Rose.
  19. Umpire really feel asleep on that one, geesh, at least make the player show you the ball in the glove....
  20. Texas would have been a better place for Prince, batting in the Grand Canyon that is the park in Detroit is killing his numbers. I think when it's all said and done, Hamilton will be back with the Rangers, I can't imaging another organization or manager being as patient with JH as the Rangers and Washington have been. Also, with two relapses that we know of, a new environment might really be bad for Josh Hamilton, the man in recovery.
  21. Bummer loss by the Giants this afternoon, losing the game to the A's, who had a walk-off homer off a 3-2 pitch, with 2 out. Now, it's a three game series against the Dodgers, we'll see what happens....
  22. *Yawn* France just mailed in the game today....
  23. After viewing them being mocked by Sweden earlier this week, I am not betting a single Euro on the French team... No team leader, very little team spirit. They don't deserve to go any further Hey, if Alain Boghossia says everything is fine with the French team, then it must be true... right? The French are amazing, they're the Boston Red Sox of soccer right now, or maybe it's the other way around. Still, Spain has looked semi-beatable, so it should be an interesting game today.
