  1. Dave Brubeck Quartet's version of "Like Someone in Love." Mostly for Desmond... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RedePifxIw4
  2. Pence was NOT leading the Phillies in hitting w/ his .271 avg. The Phillies leading hitter is Carlos Ruiz at .342. Pence has some pop in his bat w/ 17 homers. Maybe it will work out for the Giants. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. He certainly played better last season after his trade to the Phillies. But... there are a lot of holes in his game. A good player but not worth the money he's owed. Right-hand power just does not happen at AT&T Park, you have to hit a monster blast to get it out in left field, especially at night, and I can't remember too many being hit out there for this year. So I do not expect big things from Pence in the power department.
  3. I've always liked Schierholtz, and feel that Bochy never handled him correctly, but uses the typical Bochy method of sitting a player for reasons only he understands (exhibit A: Brandon Belt). Can't say I'm too thrilled with Pence either, his style of play if terrible to watch. Edit to make sense
  4. Dave Brubeck: The Columbia Studio Albums Collection 1955-1966. Decided just to go ahead and get it, I've been enjoy Brubeck so much lately, and the price was $100, so I put my wallet on life-support for awhile. Hope it's true that the live albums will come out in the fall.
  5. Maybe, but I get damn sad thinking about her life.....
  6. I had to feed the rock beast in my musical soul with a visit to the downtown Silver Platters in Seattle. The Jesus And Mary Chain: --- Psychocandy (Deluxe Edition) --- Honey's Dead (Deluxe Edition) Donny Hathaway: Live + In Performance (Many thanks to Lon for mentioning this cd -- Thanks Lon! ) Seam: The Problem With Me The Hollies: Clarke, Hicks, & Nash Years (The Complete Hollies April 1963 -- October 1965) The Dave Brubeck Quartet: Jazz: Red Hot & Cool (i'm thinking of getting the Complete Columbia Studio box set, and this is not on it)
  7. Ha! That's dirt cheap!
  8. This is my favorite Mosaic of all as I find the music endlessly fascinating. The part where Benedetti is playing Bird's part over a recording is creepy, beautiful, sick, and amazing, all at the same time. I feel strange every time I hear those cuts.
  9. Soft and cushy landing for Ichiro provided by that Mariner ownership. With the players the M's got, I hope they also got a box of donuts and a thermos of coffee, to make it worth their while....
  10. WTF???? Ichiro to the Yankees????
  11. Thanks for the reminder re: MANOS. My recollection of the film's score is foggy, but I'm curious to revisit. Anything I know about this film I owe to MST3K, which made MANOS the subject of one of their all-time most memorable episodes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AJVZuQuD6M& (Also, if you've never seen what they do to a little exploitation film called THE BEATNIKS...) Hey! Thanks for the link, I had no idea that full episodes of MST3K were on Youtube.

  13. I keep telling myself to get the Jazz Crusaders. I love that band, and I bet it's great music from start to finish.
  14. Dolan was, is, and always will be, an idiot of the first magnitude. Isiah must be back, giving some of his expert advice.
  15. Or you could say that Houston grossly overpaid for an average PG. I just think people like grousing. Lin has some skills but he is hardly the best or even fifth best player at his position. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect 20-7-6 for the season, and that's not too bad. If he does do those numbers, he can easily be traded in the third year.
  16. I just knew Dolan would make the worst decision possible.... Jim Dolan just made one of the dumbest moves of his basketball life, which is saying a mouthful. The owner of the New York Knicks, who has spent years wearing a "Kick Me" sign on his back, just kicked out the Madison Square Garden door a promising 23-year-old point guard, a player who averaged 18 points and eight assists the one time someone in the NBA decided to start him instead of fire him.... Rest of the story
  17. MC 900 FT Jesus: Bill's Dream. Very jazzy and cool.
  18. Scrubs. Season five. Still my all time favorite tv show, I never get tired of watching it.
  19. The contract would put the Knicks into luxury tax hell, so the true cost is much much higher when you consider that. The Knicks seem to be loading up on old players, with Kidd(39 + DUI), Camby(38), and now Thomas(40), with a possibility of adding Grant Hill(39). For one year that might be OK, but year two & three will get ugly. It's interesting that the guys on 5 on 5, poo-poo the salary concerns saying: A. The outside revenue that Lin would generate would pay for the luxury tax. B. The Knicks can trade Lin after the first two years of the contract and escape the tax. Whichever way it goes, I have all the confidence that Dolan will make the worst decision possible....
  20. Id like to know myself. Zero reply, it's like CTI fell of the face of the earth. I think it's back to Japanese imports to get a lot of the CTI / KUDU catalog. Was In A Temple Garden by Yusef Lateef ever released on CD? According to Doug Payne's website (which is the last word for me in all matters CTI), it was reissued twice in Japan on lp, but never on cd. Information here

  22. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't take Tony-I-never-knew-McGwire-was-taking-steriods-even-though-everyone-else-in-the-USA-knew-LaRussa.
  23. I can never think of the Arizona schools as Pac 10, and now with Colorado & Utah -- forget it. Like Chuck says: Let 'em die, it's all about the money anyway.
  24. Very disappointed in Lincecum, especially his lack of physical conditioning, which is a common occurrence with the Giants, e.g.. Huff, Panda, and now TL. How can a professional starting pitcher be "gassed" after 40 pitches? In my book, that's inexcusable, and falls on the coaching staff.
