Tough League for 1B'ers. Pujols, Howard, Berkman, Lee, Fielder... not sure about the others but think the .230 BA, pace for 250 SO's, and low OBP have anything to do with it? Oh I don't have a problem w/ it. I think Pujols and Berkman definitely should go before Howard and Gonzalez was a good choice. I was just noting that it was the first time in 60 years that the league leader in HRs and RBIs didn't make the team. HOWEVER.... I am wondering why the Cubs' fans voted in Kosuke Fukudome as a starter. A rookie w/ a .281avg, 8HR, & 36 RBIs gets in over Matt Holiday(.343/14/51), Xavier Nady(.320/12/55), Carlos Lee(.293/21/72), etc.? WTF??? I'm with you on Kosuke. I don't get all the hype. Solid player but starting All Star? No way. Now, ask me if I feel the same way about Ankiel when St. Louisans vote him onto the starting line up...

The Complete Coleman Hawkins on Keynote

Complete discographical info and 10 pages of miniscule text by Dan Morgenstern wasn't enough for you? I now have the discographical info but not the 10 pages of text. -

Thanks Chuck... guess that explains why it was so cheap. King Ubu - PM sent. Thanks! -
I lucked into this 4CD set last night for $20 but there are no liner notes. For those that have this set, did it come with liners? Or Is this like other Essential Keynote Collection... great music, zero information? Here's the UK Amazon listing: Coleman Hawkins Complete Keynote

Another vote for the Shure E3C's. Not sure of the other brands, but Shure includes several pairs of ear inserts to find just the right fit & comfort level. I suppose if you really want isolation, you can have custom ear inserts made.

I've always come back to Blues For Fred. Another nice set of standards, all associated with Mr. Astaire.

A little late on this one, but if you're still looking for a suit or just a slight wardrobe update Jos Bank is currently offering 50% off clearance prices and 50% off new Fall merch. Might be worth stopping by a store or checking out what's available on their web site.

I always thought there were two distinct paths: - A steady, informed, methodical approach. - Complete and mindless hoarding. Then again, I'm not sure I know anyone who subscribes to the first...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I honestly didn't think this was ever going to happen. BUT, I got caught in "W" traffic at the airport waiting on the tarmac for AF1 to land & prep and on the drive home waiting for W to catch his plane. Anyway, I ended up taking a detour to Vintage Vinyl and there it was, the Desmond / Hall box,... and now it's mine. Just finished the first three discs and it's definitely worth every penny.

Finally, after having slipped through my fingers last December, I picked up a minty fresh copy of The Complete Paul Desmond / Jim Hall RCA Victor Recordings today.

Have you looked at the Bonde line? Similar cube design but more modular. Available in two heights and two widths. Cubes are perfect for LP's and Ikea also sells drawers which fit into one cube and hole upwards of 100 single discs. Cheaper than custom and you can take it with you if / when you move. I almost moved in that direction, but the dimensions of my listening room wouldn't permit the Expedit units, therefore I'm having a custom build storage 15 feet long and 7 feet high made by a professional cabinet maker. That should be enough for my records I hope.

My P's gave me a CD Player for my 16th or 17th birthday... I promptly when out and bought the Imagine: John Lennon soundtrack and Joy Division's Substance best of... hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago...

Headed to Philly for a few days next week and was wondering if anyone can recommend any cd/lp shops in the South Street area. Looks like a bunch of shops are listed at South Street but aside from two obvious ones, I'm not sure what the others are like. Any live jazz in the area during the week?

The 45 RPM series have been covered extensively in Hi-Fi +, a British audio rag. They may have review on their site, although they don't have a good search function at all. Easier to do a google search on the site than sift through each issue separately.
