  1. Have you had a chance to listen to the Douglas titles? If you only had enough credits to DL one of the Dave Douglas titles, which would it be?
  2. CD's received (just four days!). Thanks, Adam.
  3. I loaded the set into iTunes last night and hit random play on the commute in this morning. Some great, great stuff there. And I only paid $20 for the box! The shop had another copy at that price if anyone wants me to pick it up for them. PM me. Oh yes! There is much treasure to be mined within these 8 discs!
  4. Trio 3+ Geri Allen plus these...
  5. First two discs of Joe Henderson's Milestone Box. For the longest time, I thought Joe Henderson's catalog ended after his Blue Note years... this box has made me realize how wrong I was.
  6. The Vinyl Countdown by Travis Elborough - A rough, academic read w/o any real "soul" or love of the medium. The end seems rushed... punk happened, the CD came, and the LP died. The end. PM me if this is on your to-read list and you can have my copy.
  7. Wasn't planning on buying anything but somehow found myself in a shop over lunch... Horace Silver - Live at Newport '58 Gerry Mulligan * Paul Desmond Quartet (1993 Verve issue with 3 unreleased tracks) Grant Green - Matador (1990) Art Blakey & James Moody - New Sounds (1991 reissue combining three 78 / 10" sessions. Interesting thing about this one - Amazon lists a CDR of this title which only offers 6 tracks, four of which aren't on this CD)
  8. The West Coast Classics series is a good start, albeit not widely available these days. That said, I've had good luck recently and have enjoyed the titles I've picked up in this series. Here's a prior thread: West Coast Classics Thread
  9. Thanks for this. Its on the list... maybe the next Cadence order?
  10. on JP! Love his songwork and now, along with his Meat is Murder novella, his books. Have you picked up the "soundtrack" and 7" accompanying the book? Excellent stuff as always.
  11. Just finished Joe Pernice's - It Feels So Good When I Stop. Excellent read... kinda like flipping through a modern Nightwawks at the Diner
  12. Thanks guys. A couple of locals also chimed in and it looks like most of the shops people were aware of are along the same strip. I'll give 'em a shot and report back.
  13. Silver Blue - Al Cohn, Dexter Gordon, Barry Harris, Louis Hayes, Sam Jones, Blue Mitchell, and Sam Noto (Xanadu)
  14. Ralph Sutton - Piano Solos in the Classic Jazz Tradition (Riverside original)
  15. I'll bite... Not a lot has changed in 4 - 5 years aside from some new speaker cables necessitated by a furniture moves. I'm intrigued by the Squeezebox... streaming all of those wonderful emusic downloads to this system is something that pulls at me. 16. You want headphones? Check out this headphone-only shop! Headphones Only!!!
  17. I'll testify. I picked up four over the last week or so and just need a couple more to complete the series. Baby steps, baby steps...
  18. Interesting little article this week from the NYT. Record Stores: Out of Sight, Not Obsolete
  19. Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, Teddy Wilson - Selections From "The Benny Goodman Movie" (Speakers Corners Cleff Reissue) Cool Jazz at Saint-Germain-des-Pres ( A nifty 10" disc from the Jazz In Paris series featuring the Armand Migiani Nonet and the Michel de Villers Sextet) Dexter Gordon & Slide Hampton - A Day In Compenhagen (MPS) Elvin Jones - Poly Currents (Blue Note DMM reissue)
  20. Any reccomendations for Louisville shops?
  21. I travel to Atlanta. Please post gig dates in the future. Would love to catch a show while I'm in town. Good luck!
  22. Spinning plenty of vinyl... on the record cleaner.
  23. Headed to Louisville in a few weeks. Any recommendations for record stores, evening jazz venues, etc...? Should have at least a day or so free time to wander about. Thanks!
  24. Cy Touff - Octet and Quintet arrived today. The Clifford Brown Emarcy arrived yesterday. Expect another three West Coast Classics discs to arrive tomorrow!
