  3. I used it last week for the first time in quite a while. Since only a few use it when the can, and if it's costing too much, don't hold on to it for my sake. Donation time for me. Right now!
  4. Get this one while you still can: Wes Montgomery by Adrian Ingram Wes Montgomery was unquestionably the most significant jazz guitarist to emerge during the 1960s. During the '70s and '80s he had, like Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt before him, become a major influence on other guitar players. Elements of his style are discernable in many of today's finest players. Through this book, guitarists and jazz guitar enthusiasts everywhere will fully understand and appreciate Wes's achievements, so often narrowly categorized as the development of octave playing. 5. I don't know, but this might be a Rolls: But this is a old Bentley: Here it is: Be-Bop Bentley One of the more famous Continentals was ordered by the ex-Baroness Pannonica Rothschild de Koenigswarter, great-great-granddaughter of the celebrated banker Nathan Mayer Rothschild. The baroness owned a number of Rolls Royce and Bentley cars, but the car she loved most was a 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Drophead Coupe, which came to be known as the Be-Bop Bentley. That's because the baroness became a huge patron of jazz in New York in the late 1950s and '60s, and her car was often seen parked outside of jazz clubs such as Birdland, Smalls and the Village Vanguard and was often used to ferry musicians throughout the city. A picture of the car was published in the Time magazine cover story on Thelonious Monk and Be-Bop jazz in February 1964, and Monk, as well as Charlie Parker devoted several compositions to de Koenigswarter. --Michael Frank
  6. I read where John Sinclair talked about this concert. Maybe it was in a Brilliant Corners interview?
  7. I wasn't very impressed except for the moments they shoed some of her paintings and letters. Very creative lady! Her niece seemed like she wasn't very informed about the music and I could do without Clint Eastwood as a expert.

  9. Steve, I found this recent news: WWOZ Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson to Visit WWOZ and Snug Harbor Authored by: Jelly Roll Justice [show Host] Submitted: Thu, 11/12/2009 - 11:31am Tag(s): Show host blog Brilliant jazz saxophonist Wessell "Warmdaddy" Anderson will appear tonight (Thursday, November 12th at 8 and 10 p.m.) at Snug Harbor along with Victor Adkins (p), Ed Perkins (s), Troy Davis (d) and Roland Guerin (b) in what promises to be incredible shows. On Wednesday, Professor Anderson (he currently is teaching at Michigan State University in East Lansing) worked with a myriad of young artists in the UNO's Jazz Studies Department --- then finished the day playing along with these musicians at the Sandbar. Included in the ensemble was an extremely talented trombonist known at "Quad" Anderson...Wess' son. Before the Snug Harbor appearances, "Warmdaddy" will stop by WWOZ for an interview with Jelly Roll Justice during "Jazz from the Market" (4 to 7 p.m.) and will discuss his latest album and his current work.

  20. Very true, indeed. Even live they take advantage of numerous electronic enhancements that are available. Bu just had his hands, feet and whatever kit he had.

A great artist. I have two of his original, signed photos. Billie Holiday and Trane/Elvin. A huge influence. He wasn't afraid of low light and the dark, but used those factors to produce high art in photography. Here's the Trane / Elvin:
  24. Just a plain English, Happy Birthday Brownie!
