  1. No problem, Brownie. It is a gatefold sleeve and I believe it is the same as the original apart from the spine that is white and not orange and black. Also, the back of the sleeve is blue. (I don't know what colour the original one is). BTW, it is the live at the Village Vanguard live AGAIN! Sorry about the confusion!
  2. This is a Capitol Record Club pressing. For a time in the mid-1960's, Capitol Records operated a mail-order service, through which they offered records on a variety of labels besides Capitol. The non-Capitol records were pressed by Capitol, and assigned Capitol catalog numbers. I've seen Impulse, Verve, and others with Capitol numbers. I'd keep it. Those capitol record club issues are not highly collectible but are of some interest. Anyone knows about the pressing information ? I same pressing run as orginals ? Same date of issue ? The seller has agreed to refund me. There is no date on either the sleeve or the record. Yet, it does say 'a product of ABC-Paramount records at the bottom of the record label. If you want it Michel, it is all yours!
  3. It is NOT an original! My original mono orange vinyl has the letters RVG in the dead wax on both sides along with 'A10 - A 1' and 'A-10 B' signs on sides 1 and 2! Thanks Brownie. The seller seems to be a genuine person and I am sure he advertised it as an original because of the orange and black label. It shouldn't be a problem to send it back and obtain a refund. I have just listened to it and the sound is pretty poor anyway. BTW, if I hadn't known that the tune on side 2 was 'My favourite things', I would never have guessed it!
  4. There is SMAS1 90965 int the dead wax. Nothing else.
  5. I received this morning a copy that was sold to me as an original copy of the Coltrane Live at the Village Vanguard. It has the orange and black label but it seems to be a Capitol records reissue with a SMAS 90965 sign on the side of the sleeve! I thought that all orange and black labels were original copies... This one does not seem to be. Can anybody help?
  6. With about 9 hours to go, it stands at $1,004.99... Now up to $1,259.99 with less than 4 hours to go... That's about $420 a CD... Ouch... It's likely shill bidding falsely pumping the price up. Ebay's new policies favor shill bidding. In what way?
  7. What is this one like, Bob? Nearly bought it on Ebay recently and I changed my mind.
  8. I am having a Bill Evans Sunday. Complete Riverside Recordings. Listening to the 5th LP at the moment.
  9. It is amazingly warm in Bristol right now. Difficult to believe that snow is on its way. It should be with us on Tuesday. And Bob, I don't know how you can live in a place that has no milkman. This country is not the same without these guys.
  10. It seems to me that Ebay has been overwhelmed once more by a new wave of Mosaic madness. Prices have gone up the roof lately.(for LPs and CDs) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TINA-BROOKS-Complete...VQQcmdZViewItem
  11. Miles Davis with John Coltrane LP 1.
  12. Benny Carter 'Further Definitions' (Stereo Impulse)
  13. OK..... so this one ( described as an original pressing) is not, is it? Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the label. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OLIVER-NELSON-THE-BL...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. Mosaic Select Charles Tolliver CD2. Great stuff! Highly recommended.
  15. Shelly Manne & his Men at the Blackhawk' vol.4 The quality of the recording is amazingly good!
  16. Thanks. It sounds as an original!
  17. I have another question about Contemporary records. I have received a Shelly Manne at the Blackhawk vol.2 that was sold to me as an original on Ebay but the label is brownish black. It is a stereo version. The label does not look like any of the yellow labels of Contemporary records. Did I get done??! Is it a reissue?
  18. Tell me about it! . At least with the prices the Blue Notes go for, there is no chance I may even consider buying even one of them. Whereas, $45, $60 records are much more difficult to resist. I knew I sould never have joined Organissimo.....
  19. Thanks Shrdlu. Very useful info.
  20. Why is it that stereo versions always sell for less than mono versions? Is this due to the small number of mono copies printed or has it got anything to do with sound quality?
  21. The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis and John Coltrane LP 2.
  22. Miles Davis Blackhawk sessions LP 2.
  23. Joyeux anniversaire!!
  24. How can I recognise Impulse original pressings? Is the Orange Label with the 4 Impulse logos written in black sufficient for the record to be an original? I have here a copy of Lawrence Brown's All Stars session with the black and orange label. (Mono A-89). It says:'A product of ABC-Paramount records'. Is that a 1st pressing or a reissue? There is no 'RVG' or 'Van Gelder' in the dead wax. Do all original Impulse records have this stamp in the dead wax? Thanks for your help.
