What are the most popular Mosaics?
ASNL77 replied to mikelz777's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I am a bit surprised to see my favorite ones not doing that well...... Difficult to choose a top 5 but I would have to go for the Bill Evans, Sam Rivers, Larry Young, Davis/Evans and Shorty Rogers sets. -

£14.17....shipping charges included in the price? Shipping is free to UK customers when you spend £15. For customers who live outside the UK, this is obviously not the case. The normal price is £30. Paying 50% less than the normal price and expecting free shipping to Finland may be too much to ask...... I have just received my copy and will spend part of my weekend reading the latest reviews. -

This seller has made a lot of $ in the last three months by selling a lot of Mosaic and other sets. A lot of these sets have sold for amazing prices. This one is far from being the first one to reach an unbelievable price. Not too sure what is going on here.....

Elvin Jones and Gerry Mulligan CJB in "Running Low"!
ASNL77 replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I didn't want to risk a bad surprise with a faulty set or a problem with the set having gone OOP. I have just placed my order but $68 is too cheap. I had to go for the Turrentine set as well! Thanks Ron. -
I grabbed this set on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and I really love the music. The live at Montreux 1968 is top class! . Yet the box is full of rust and having your hands covered with rust everytime you want to take a CD out of its sleeve is very annoying! Mine is considerably more rusty than the ones seen on the first page of this thread but the music is worth every penny! Although this thread is definitely not political, I am not too sure what it is doing here!

Miles Davis Prestige recordings LP set
ASNL77 replied to ASNL77's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The records sound fine but I am very diasppointed with the inserts. I have never seen anything as poor as this. Not even an album index!! Glad I have got the music though. Is all the music still available on vinyl? -

Miles Davis Prestige recordings LP set

That would be the 'Chronicle' set, right? I have that one without the box and booklet - LPs in plain white card sleeves marked up by hand and sold to me in a sale by the late lamented 'Mole Jazz' many moons ago. I would say that the sound quality is comparable to OJCs of that vintage. They are not thick vinyl but are thin pressings like the OJCs. In other words, sound is quite acceptable. From my experience the Prestige 1st and 2nd pressings on Bergenfield and 50th St NYC sound better though - more presence and 'body'. The challenge though will be to find these at lowish cost and in good condition (indeed a challenge these days in the UK ). Thanks Bob. Yes this is the Chronicle set. I am sure the Bergenfield pressings must be very hard to find. I have been trying to find all this music on vinyl for quite some time now. Glad to hear they sound fine. I will get this one and I will update if I have the chance to do so. I saw the Analogue version sold a few weeks ago. But it sold for a lot of $$. I may also try the Fantasy option. -
Does anybody have this set? How does it sound and is the cover art the same as on the original LPs? I can't find any previous discussion on this. I don't know if there are several versions of this but the one I am thinking of is white with the names of all the musicians written in black at the front.

Talking about the market of Mosaic sets, what are your views about long term trends. Do you think that prices will more or less remain the same or do you reckon that in ten - fifteen years time, these OOP gems will be worth a fortune? If we look at the sets that went OOP ages ago, like the Tina Brooks or the Ike Quebec sets for example, prices don't seem to go up the roof as they never seem to sell for more than $120. Will that be the trend for all the other sets?

ASNL77 replied to tjobbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Agreed Erik. It is just frustrating. Especially when it happens twice. But apart from this bad experience, I have always been very pleased with them and I do recommend them. By the way, if somebody has a spare set of the Mingus..... PM me! -

I am not sure that having the name 'zweitausendeins' written in big letters across the box is the best way to ship. I wouldn't be surprised if these parcels have been stolen in a warehouse before reaching me. A more discreet packaging would surely help to cut down the number of 'lost' parcels. -

You are right but I have never experienced any problems with DHL before although I have used them a lot of times. What surprised me when I first emailed them to report the 'non delivery' was that the set was sold out according to their website. Yet, their answer was: 'We will send you another one shortly'. It is the first time things go wrongwith them ( I previously ordered two other sets and received them fine) but two parcels lost ..... -

I ordered the Mingus set two months ago but I never received it. I emailed them and they said they were sending another one. I never received that one either! Obviously, the set is now sold out and they have just offered me a refund. Judging by this thread, it seems to me that quite a lot of their parcels get lost..... Although, they are quick at answering emails and efficient when it comes to refund their customers, I am not very impressed with the quality of the service. -
Sweet revenge. France have beaten Italy tonight in Paris in a qualifying game for the Euro 2008. Result 3-1 No Zidane - No Materazzi and no Italy either. A great game from the French. I am starting to feel a bit better!!
