J Larsen Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Does anyone here have recollection of "The Defenders," from the early 1960s, with E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed (later of "the Brady Bunch")? Not repeated anywhere, not on DVD, but it was considered the best dramatic series of its time, years ahead of anything else in the issues it dealt with. The pilot (starring William Shatner) is out on DVD. I would conjecture that if it sells, we'll see the full series. http://www.amazon.com/Studio-One-Defender/...=UTF8&s=dvd Quote
Spontooneous Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 First season of Get Smart. (Big downhill after that.) First season of Green Acres. Soft spot for the Addams Family; never appreciated The Munsters. And, yes, Mary Hartman. (P.S.: The planted evidence linking Dewey the maintenance man to the fire at the plant was, if memory serves, "three cans of Afro-Sheen and a Marvin Gaye album.") Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 I know people who refused to ever let their kids watch Green Acres growin' up because it was, to 60s tv, what, i dunno, what nicole richie is for tv in the 00s= a complete brain drain/waste of time. now if u wanna talk good vintage tv you would have to watch Sid Ceaser show. chewy also can't stand MASH, (its only saving grace, being that Benny G. wrote the theme, of course)-- im not talking about the movie, just the show. mash is one of the only vintage tv shows b'casted on late night tv anymore and it drives me MAD. another good show is Rhoda. this is a spinoff of the not-as-good mtm show, and should not be confused with the other mtm spinoff, that was the worst one of all, "phyllis". who here has ever seen an episode of phyllis. oh god. Matthew Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 (edited) Chewy you need to get some rest -- it was Johnny Mandel who wrote Theme From M*A*S*H. Edited December 25, 2006 by Matthew Quote
JSngry Posted Wednesday at 08:42 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:42 PM Up 22 years later. Vintage has expanded in the interim! My most recent excursion was the four seasons of The Joey Bishop show, which was....a trip. 4 seasons, two networks, 3 casts, and 4(?) premises. Today's critics find it an abomination, but I watched in fascination as a lot of the old-time bit players shower up regularly and did their old-time shtick at what was rapidly becoming the end of an era.
