The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Tom's Richard Bock thread reminded me, ciruitously, of this one, so... Billy Butterfield with the Benny Simkins ' Band - Watch what happens - Flyright Pete (p), Geoff (as), Benny (ts) Nice mainstream stuff. I didn't know it had been issued on Jazzology. That must be why it's orange; my sleeve is redder than the US would accept MG Quote

paul secor Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 To my ears, Lou sounds like a hard bop Benny Carter on this record. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Roland Hanna - The New York Jazz Quartet In Chicago (Bee Hive) I like the Bee Hive record label. It's too bad that the label's owner never licensed any of them out for CD reissue (except for the Johnny Hartman date). I really can't figure out what he is waiting for to reissue them. Quote

I'll have to give that one another shot. Always seemed like "something like that" to me. Don't get me wrong - it's not a masterpiece; it would have benefited from some organization. But as someone who likes noisy music sometimes, I enjoy spinning it occasionally. Now playing: Steve Lacy - Raps (Adelphi). The bass player on this 1977 album, Ron Miller, is not well known, but he's excellent. I had never made the connection, but I noticed last night that he was the bass player on the CeDell Davis album I was listening to. Quote
