jeffcrom Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Some final weirdness before bed: MEV/AMM: Live Electronic Music Improvised (Mainstream). If you're following along at home, be aware that "Most, if not all, copies of this record have the labels switched." I figured that out on my first spin of this years ago. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Re: MEV/AMM...Hmmm haven't played my copy in a few years....I'll have to check now to see if my copys labels are reversed! Given that both pieces are side-long electronic improvisations, it's not as easy to tell as it would be with some albums. But the real AMM side has several segments of silence spliced in at various points, to make some conceptual point that I don't pretend to understand. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 The AMM performance is a series of excerpts from a concert that was later released in full on Matchless (The Crypt 12 June 68). Still need the MEV on Horo! And my labels are also reversed. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Nah, it's around $50-$70 these days. The Sonic Arts Union LP also gets there sometimes – that's one of my favorite "new music" albums. Mainstream label psych records can get pretty expensive as well. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 Armand Hug - New Orleans Piano (Golden Crest). Someone was impressed with Hug's playing on my just-completed blindfold test. I like it, too - as influenced by Jess Stacy as by Jelly Roll Morton. The great Paul Barbarin is on drums here. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 I love the sonic arts union lp! Yes, it's a classic. My friend Andrew Raffo Dewar is writing a book on the group and their activities. Also not to be missed is David Behrman's Wave Train album on Alga Marghen, which collects some related music under the composer's direction. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 Listening to a relatively current cd by a vibes player and had to stop to listen to some Bobby Naughton. Quote
