At the risk of being roasted on the 'other thread' by one particular windup merchant, the switch back to vinyl was like an extra dimension being added back to the music and much more involving.  I have just today also added a turntable isolation platform to the set up, so the difference now is even more marked. The difference is probably the mastering engineer. Quote

LP source to amp chain is quite a bit better than CD on my system so very much dependent on individual setup. Have experimented further with the isolation platform on the CD player as well - some substantial gains in terms of level of detail and control. Conclusion - both benefit enormously from a platform. jazzbo Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I'm with you sidewinder. It's not all "harmonic distortion" either. I have a great digital front end or two, but there's something from vinyl playback that enthralls me in a different way. I'm really enjoying vinyl playback these days after a turntable revamp. And I've learned how important a phono preamp is. Edited January 31, 2016 by jazzbo Quote

jazzbo Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Great heavy vinyl original copy I plucked off amazon for less than 6 dollars total. . . just a bit of crackle. Listening to the Condon side. Don't have to tell anyone here how great these fifties Columbia records sound. Quote

Yes they do, though apparently we are imagining it. I think their sixties records also sound great.   Quote
jazzbo Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Ha, we have very good imaginations! Yes, 'sixties as well. . . but some of the 'fifties just bowl me over. I played Condon's Bixieland a bit ago and was bowled over! Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Joe Henderson "our thing" (blue note, NY mono ear) absolute pristine copy but alas the dreaded pressing bubble...3 distinct little pops in like 5 seconds or so disturb an otherwise sublime playback Good thing I have the recent Japanese SHM CD as well! I own this one sans bubble (sorry) ... bought it mail order when I was in college in the early 80s. Â I adore this album.
