"Prez" Vol. II (Pablo)

'Bird' is Free (Esquire)

Two great Live records! I am surprised there is no "album covers showing kitchenware" thread!

I didn't know about the Prez on Pablo. How many volumes were there and  what are the recording dates?

It is part of the 4 volumes issued by Pablo and  recorded in Washington D.C. with the Bill Potts Trio in early December 1956 (https://www.discogs.com/search/?q=pablo+lester+young+potts&format_exact=Album&type=master). I realize just now that there is a fifth volume  issued in the late 90s (https://jazztimes.com/reviews/albums/lester-young-in-washington-d-c-1956-volume-five/). No exact recording dates are provided on the LPs. Pointless to rank/rate them, but the series as a whole is beautiful, my go-to records from Pres in the 50s.

Officially starting tomorrow after fueled debate, French Christian churchgoers will say "Do not let us enter into temptation" rather than "Do not submit us to temptation"...

Back on topic, now playing Lionel Hampton!

Anthony Ortega - A Man and his Horns (Herald mono). The talented saxophonist overdubs alto, tenor, baritone, flute, and clarinet.

Ron Carter - All Blues (CTI). I had never seriously considered picking up any of Carter's CTI albums, but at a record store today I noticed (for the first time) that Joe Henderson is on this one. It's not bad.

Oh, the Washington sessions.  I have them  on another label.  Thanks for the info.  I got excited that there might be a series of live Prez dates I didn't know about.

Thelonious Monk ‎- Les Liaisons Dangereuses 1960

On both sides, my automatic-return turntable got stuck in the runout groove. Do you know if it affects the wear of  the stylus?

Probably not if you raise the arm within a short time.

Yes, I usually don't change sides right away, so I was a bit surprised. Reading a bit online, I am still miles and miles away from the Fully-Manual-Is-The-Only-way-To-Listen-To-Music purists.

Today has been:

Laurent de Wilde - New Monk Trio

The Jazz Messengers - Soul Finger (how come Bartz is credited nowhere!)

Duke Ellington - Piano Reflections (finally listening to this beauty!!)
