sidewinder Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 In the middle of a re-spin of this one I read that saxophonist Don Weller has just passed a couple of days ago. He had been in ill health for a while but this is particularly sad news. RIP. One of the best of the UK tenorists, for sure. Quote

I have never seen a combined Columbia/Milestone release. Was that a short-lived thing? Now spinning Clare Fischer's 'Jazz Song' on the Revelation label. One of two fine solo albums Fischer recorded for the label in 1973; the other one is 'The State of his Art'.  Edited June 4, 2020 by Daniel A Quote

Will spin it soon, but right now I am listening to another find from today, a mono copy of Cal Tjader's 'Soul Burst'. I have only just started to discover Tjader's output, and there seems to be a lot to enjoy there, for sure! Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 8, 2020 Report Posted June 8, 2020 Mark Knopfler - Kill To Get Crimson (WB). I can't believe the money this LP is getting these days. I didn't realize it until I searched for a cover shot. It's good but at the same time, it's very similar to his other latter-date releases. I actually prefer "Sailing To Philadelphia". Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 8, 2020 Report Posted June 8, 2020 Peter Gabriel/Various Artists - Scratch My Back And I'll Scratch Yours (Real World). In concept, this should have been a great album... and it might have been 20 years earlier, when Gabriel was in his prime. Instead, PG's sides are kind of boring. He only seems to be able to sing in one pitch and the tempos all lag, which gives his versions a sameness that takes away from the songwriters' intent. If you don't pay attention, you might miss a song change. They're that similar. Quote
