How is that one? I've struggled to get into some of his records, though I do like the Dane Belany album quite a bit...

I had a number of them and this is the one I kept. Interesting take on the Master.

The "looks" and "feel" of those Sahara records were often promising, but they always failed to live up to (my) expectations. Except for the Dane Belany album which, like Clifford, I do like a lot.

(I must confess I never heard the Monk tribute album.)

Mine's a little bit of a crackling good album unfortunately.  Doesn't detract too much from the impact of the music though.  Signed by Favre and Schweizer too, although I've no proof they're legit.

A pity, because it's a really good recording and pressing. But it's nice to have an original with its gorgeous silk screened sleeve.

And honestly, I wouldn't worry about the legitimacy of the signatures. Why would anyone forge Favre's and Schweizer's signatures on the cover?. Those two are not exactly hot among autograph hunters.^_^

Available to stream and download. I would recommend you hear it if you can (and I appreciate you don't 'do' vinyl anymore)

The Graham Collier Septet - Deep Dark Blue Centre [Deram, mono]

This lights up the room every time I play it, revealing new delights.  Possibly the best British Jazz album for me.  This listening prompted by starting the Harry B biography.

Wow. High praise.

I have several Collier albums, but not that one.  Need to check it out!  :tup

Ah yes, a real stunner! (mine is stereo)

Had a great time many years ago interviewing Graham -- wonderful man, he is missed.

When the BGO CD was being prepared, Graham wasn’t even aware that a stereo version existed. That CD was the first issue of the stereo version - taken from LP. I guess the tapes must be lost.

The biography on Northway is highly recommended. A complex character - who indeed is missed !

:tup  Have it on vinyl but Clark T. sold me a copy of his ‘Resteamed’ CD reissue after a gig by his very fine young Quintet.

That’s Stan’s wife Jackie on the cover I think.

Joe Albany - Proto-Bopper, on Revelation, 1972. A decent quality recording, I especially enjoyed the solo part of the program. Interestingly, some of the tunes credited as 'standard', even though the composers are well-known.

Thank you, I'll keep my eye out for a copy.  Just listened to the entire album on youtube, and wouldn't mind buying a cd, if one becomes available. The original Deram LPs go for $300 or thereabout.

I enjoy good modal jazz, and this is a good one.

There was a story that Universal would be reissuing ‘Deep’ on LP and download as part of a new British Jazz Reissue series which was announced about 6 months ago but so far - no word.

The BGO CD is already getting scarce - and expensive. The feedback when it hit the market was that the stereo version provided new insights and nuances over previous issues.

Ah - the Dipple Mole !

Any fans of Stan are recommended to check out Geoffrey Smith’s short but comprehensive tribute on BBC Radio 3 broadcast Thursday night.

Just arrived - copy no. 287 of 2000. First impressions - excellent sound.
