Duke Ellington, The Pianist image.jpeg.73020663ae9f2c3f3166b65e6e67d627.jpeg

I have not heard much Ellington playing piano himself, maybe a a bit on "Money Jungle" and maybe he sounds a bit more Monkish, but I´m really a Monk fan as it is about piano.

But interesting some of the pianists who play more "arrangers style" like Duke, Basie, Kenton, Dameron made solo albums or so. I´m not sure. I heard a Pablo album Diz with Basie only a quartet..., and also Dameron did albums where he plays mostly solo, I think on that album with Trane, or the one with "The Scene Changes"....

You might want to investigate more deeply. Ellington is much more than an arranger's piano. He's one of my favorite pianists. There are plenty of solo, duo, trio, and small group recordings.

I just need to co-sign this. Duke was a fucking brilliant and original pianist, both as a soloist and as an accompanist. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either misinformed or hasn't done the listening. And while I'm at it, Basie was a great pianist too. When I think of folks who play "composer's" or "arranger's" piano, I think of people like Tadd Dameron, Gil Evans, and MANY cats I know who play other instruments but can sit down at the keyboard and comp changes in time and perhaps even solo too, some well enough to play gigs, but with limited technique and a narrow expressive range compared to "real" pianists (like Duke and Basie).

Yep, Atlantis. They got it in a couple of weeks ago and I showed restraint and common sense then but yesterday thought "sod it, won't see one of them again if it's still there I'm having it". Sometimes you just have to...

know the feeling. Well done!

Thanks, I think it has to be my top score not least because a lot of previously sold copies seem to be G+, obviously a party album in its day

This is my favorite Fajardo album.  Of course, I'm biased because of the artwork.

In my experience (so far), all Fajardo is good Fajardo.  ;)

This is the one with the two compositions "Viena" and "Uagadugu", isn´t it.
Very fine music, this might be from the strata East recordings then ? Isn´t it.

someone inspired me to play this one. I love the Vienna composition and heard it play in a record store but a different version. It was the new Jordan release by the Dutch Jazz Archives :

It sounded pretty damn good and I am considering ordering it

And the drumming master himself, at the same time he's playing with Brötzmann, Parker and Tchicai...

My copy is an original Strata-East pressing.
