You're right: the sound of the last track is "congested", overall all side 2 is worst then side 1. I checked it on my Coltrane's Prestige cd set, even on the cd the tracks on side 1 of the vinyl are better then side 2, though they sounds better then my 50th pressing's side 2. Pretty bizzare. No clues in the box set's libretto.

Thanks for checking, Porcy - this seems to be a fault on every 50th St pressing of this one I've ever come across. My copy is archival quality - it was played just once or twice with great care by the previous owner, a producer/critic (heck, even the rice paper inner is in near mint). It seemed so bizarre that the sound on side 2 was so inferior - what I hear is low signal/noise (especially for a deep groove) and a generally 'thin' sound. Especially pronounced on that great track, 'Super Jet'.

Ah well. As you say, the music is fabulous anyway and side 1 is the 'dog's bollocks'. Still a wonderful LP :)

Tadd Dameron and John Coltrane - MATING CALL - Prestige yellow 50th label.

Nice :tup . What's the pressing like on side 2?

Sorry for the delay, I was in Turkey. :excited: Holiday

Side 2 is good, as far I remember. Why are you asking it?

Welcome back. :) I was asking re: the side 2 as every copy I've ever heard had less than great pressing quality on the last track. Not sure why this is.

I was playing the OJC CD of that the other day - didn't notice a thing except the music.

If you listen to carefully at "Super Jet" you should find a less defined sound, I would say "congested", the instruments are melted togheter. Try to compare this track with the others. In my vinyl and my cd I can hear a difference. If you don't, just drop the issue and think "Fuck those anally retentive audiophiles, this is a great record".

Thanks Porcy. I'll try both methods :)

Listening, and cleaning, (since I bought a VPI RCM I am listen to every record I have in order to cleaning it, so I discovered some forgotten gems, and some crap too, in my collection) THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH. Anyway a good and useful way to realize what I have on the shelves.

I still like this one, after so many years.

Introducing the Afro Blues Quintet Plus One - Mira mono.

Sounds like a Chris Montez album without vocals!

Some of their stuff is a LOT better than that!
