paul secor Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Louis Armstrong: 1936-1946 - disc 1 Just want to add my 2 cents on Mosaic - currently being argued about in another thread. I find that the respect that Mosaic gives to the music in their attention to sound quality and in their presentation - booklets, completeness - prompts me to give the music more of the attention it deserves. Not saying that I don't listen carefully at other times, but when I take a Mosaic off the shelf, I always listen carefully. Quote

king ubu Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 The Complete Blue Note Art Hodes, LPs 4 and 5 one of my favorite Mosaic box! Reminder to self to haul down this set ! I'll gladly help if I can get it after you've finished listening Now playing: the (I hope) well-deserved Pacific Piano Jazz Trios - disc 1 right now, the Freeman is delightful, the Twardzik truly amazing... played the Rowles a couple of days back, so it's on to the Fischer afterwards... Anyone knows why the two bonus tracks from the Rowles session (an alternate and an unissued "All the Things You Are") weren't included here? They're both on disc 3 of the Complete Nocturne Recordings Vol. 1, and Pujol there says both were given to him by Rowles to use there. That set seems to be one of the few legitimate things coming from Fresh Sound (besides of course the FSNT series), and it's a delightful one! Quote
mellowT Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker, Complete Pacific Jazz & Capitol Recordings, one of my top-10 Mosaics: BTW, according to my 1975 Webster's unabridged dictionary, "tentette" isn't even a word. Always got a chuckle out of that. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Joe Pass - disc 2. EXCELLENT! Yes, that and the first half of disc 3 are the reasons I bought the box. The rest is of very little interest to me. MG Quote
Matthew Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Classic Condon Mob Sessions. Disk one, the Bud Freeman and His Famous Chicagoans session is great. Quote
CSB046 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Just got a copy of the Tony Williams Select in the mail today. I'm almost finished with Disc 1, and I like it quite a bit. (And I say that despite listening to several of the songs during my first workout on my new elliptical machine. Even proving that I'm woefully out of shape couldn't put a damper on this music!) Quote
sidewinder Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Just got a copy of the Tony Williams Select in the mail today. I'm almost finished with Disc 1, and I like it quite a bit. Isn't that one on back-order at Mosaic? (you must have got it from a retailer, I guess). It's on my shortlist of Selects, for sure (even though I have all the originals - love this stuff).
