John L
Good stuff! I recall that fantastic scene from the Wayne's World movie. I think that Garth was having a nightmare. It was a Kenny G concert. They showed the audience of middle-aged emptied-headed suburbanites, each with the same wide empty smile on his or her face. Then they showed Garth in the middle of it all looking absolutely terrified.
White Lightning
Nice! Isn't Kenny G too much of an easy target, though?
BruceH
Yeah, but we're talking Wayne's World here, not Shakespeare.

RDK
Isn't Kenny G too much of an easy target, though? My thoughts exactly! Now a *daring* comic strip would have a character complaining about Charlie Parker playing "too many notes."
chris olivarez
There was a "Far Side" cartoon where Charlie Parker was in hell and was in a sound booth that he couldn't escape from and the Devil was outside piping in Carpenters records into the sound booth. robviti
For those who didn't know, Gary Larson is a jazz fan and a musician. He retired The Far Side at the height of its popularity in 1994 to pursue his love of jazz guitar.

JSngry
Now a *daring* comic strip would have a character complaining about Charlie Parker playing "too many notes." A former music critic for The Dallas Morning News, Michael Cochran, once wrote a column about the "most overrated musicans" of all time, and included Bird (as well as Otis Redding!) on the list. His blurb was something along the lines of: "Sounded like he was making it all up as he went along. Guess what? He was." Yeah, THAT'S astute criticism! Daniel A
You know, up to a few years ago I actually thought Kenny G and Kenny Garrett were the same person... I suppose I hadn't made too much effort checking out Garrett's playing.

sidewinder
I once read an article on Mosaic that said that Gary Larson and Matt Groening were Mosaic's two best customers. Bertrand. Wasn't there mention on the BNBB of a 'Jackie McLean Pizza Co.' pizza box delivery on one of the episodes of The Simpsons. That explains it, he must have snagged a McLean CD box set ! Just goes to show that Music critic standard for the Dallas Morning News aren't terribly high? Why not hire that dog that knows 200 words?
