Misterioso Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 (edited) Am I right to assume that CD-Rs are used for the the compact disc version? Can't see the official CD logo anywhere on the product. Edit: I contacted "New Braxton House" with this question. Will report back here. 9 minutes ago, 7/4 said: I hear ya. But it isn't just the money. I moved 15 months ago and don't have the room either. Most of my CDs are boxed up and stored in a spare room. There is always the (cheaper) option of just buying the files.... If the discs are indeed CD-Rs, I might do this as well. mjazzg Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 Should hope so at those prices...OK, not necessarily too expensive per CD but in such large quantities it's costly Quote
David Ayers Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 As with Jarrett and standards, not quite sure of the premises. So we play the head, more or less, referencing at least some of the chords, and then - fun at first, I suppose. Quote
erwbol Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 €175 at Jazz Messengers. I just ordered a copy. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/76198/anthony-braxton/sextet-parker-1993 Quote
erwbol Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) This a superbly produced box set. Beautiful non-fatiguing warm sound (now listening to disc 1). Excellent booklet. Many here would enjoy this if they could scrape the cash together. If you can occasionally spend $150 on a Mosaic set, you might as well get this New Braxton House release. Similar value for money. B. Clugston Posted August 1, 2018 Report Posted August 1, 2018 Graham Lock's excellent book on Braxton, Forces in Motion, has been reissued with some extra material by Dover Publications. The book covers the quartet's 1985 tour on England and provides excellent background on Braxton's approach to music. One of the best jazz books out there. Quote
erwbol Posted August 2, 2018 Report Posted August 2, 2018 Look inside the new edition: https://www.amazon.com/Forces-Motion-Anthony-Meta-reality-Creative/dp/0486824098 Compared to my hardcover: Discographical Note (378-379) smaller than old Discography (378-395) Three new sections, together about 31 pages: Selected Updates to the First Edition; Afterword by Anthony Braxton; Still in Motion: Road, Metaroad, Quartet - A Short Sequel Quote

JSngry Posted May 22, 2019 Report Posted May 22, 2019 I don't know if it necessarily sounds "good", but AB & Haggard...more than a little curious to see/hear the lens (lenses?) that goes through on its way to what process on its way to the final music. I hope there are copious liner notes, and I do mean copious! Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted May 22, 2019 Report Posted May 22, 2019 I’ll get this. I don’t know the drummer. Love Bynum and I think the combination of Cline with Bynum & Braxton has me interested in this. Quote

I hope there are copious liner notes, and I do mean copious! Braxton has a penchant for dedicating his compositions / performances to people he likes. The Braxton GTM 2001 set had tracks dedicated to Captain Beefheart, Shostakovitch, John Cage, Harry Partch, Betsy Jolas, etc. This is as meaningful as Braxton's drawing for his compositions. Quote
