Any opinions on this disk? Its Andrew Voigt/Anthony Braxton: Kol Nidre: Sound Aspects. I mean yeah, it has Braxton on it, and I'll most likely get it since I can snap it up for $8, but I'm no too familiar with Andrew Voigt, who was with ROVA. I've never heard how he sounds or how he does with Braxton, so that's my primary concern. Here's a link below to look at the disk:

It's not bad. Not all that easy to find. I'm glad I own it, though it wouldn't be in my top 15 favourite Braxton duet albums. (Not a slight considering how many duet albums he's done.)

Picked this up last week and I agree with you; I'm glad I have it now although I would not consider it essential. Definitely interesting and at times and Voigt seems to hold his own for the most part.

Not sure, but I don't think so...I seem to remember I was going to be in the area around that time, and monitoring whether this was going to happen. I think it may 'just' have been the Art Ensemble.

Just on my first listen through Composition No. 287 from the Six Compositions (GTM) 2001 set and finding it strange hearing such a small group handling GTM when my only previous exposure to GTM was through the Iridium set. An amazing slow paced solo from Brax at about the 10 min mark and the guitarist is superb. I do think that some of the GTM I've heard so far tends to have about 40 minutes of good music in about an hour of performance, with the other 20 mins devoted to a steady pulse ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-sqeakber-ber-ber-ber-ber-ber and little else. When you reach the good stuff though it makes it all worth while.

Another 4 CD set is on the way:

"Quartet (GTM) 2006 is Anthony Braxton's first release for Important Records. GTM stands for Ghost Trance Music and this four cd box set contains four Ghost Trance compositions recorded in quarted with Anthony Braxton playing reeds, Carl Testa on bass, Aaron Siegal on percussion and Max Heath on piano. This 4 cd box also contains a definitive essay by Braxton on his Ghost Trance compositions."

I'm looking forward to this as Braxton has recorded infrequently in a sax-piano-bass-drums configuration since the great Crispell/Dresser/Hemingway quartet. If memory serves me correct, the only GTM dates of this sort are the one for Delmark from 2000 and the very first GTM session, though Ted Reichman is playing accordion.

I believe that's the 10th 4 CD set Braxton has released.

Hat Hut is also promising reissues of the following:

4-644 Anthony Braxton · Willisau (Quartet) 1991

[reissue of hatART 4-6100]

658 Anthony Braxton · Seven Compositions (Trio) 1989

[reissue of hatART 6025]

The latter, including Tony Oxley, is a must own.

Anthony Braxton / Joe Morris

4 Improvisations

A 4 CD set

This historic edition — Clean Feed’s one hundredth release — is a four-disc set that features two extraordinaire musicians who before this session had never played together: multi-reedist Anthony Braxton and guitarist Joe Morris. “Four Improvisations (Duo) 2007” has other unique qualities. One is that Braxton has rarely recorded completely improvised pieces. More typically he plays compositions, his own or occasionally jazz standards, and improvises within their structures. His compositions can include open forms and spaces that require creativity of himself and his fellow musicians, but it is structured music. Morris, conversely, more frequently improvises freely, but he also often works within the parameters of composed pieces. On these discs, each one a continuous improvisation of approximately one hour, Braxton and Morris play free. We hear them discovering each other’s thought processes and musical strategies, while negotiating common places to interact. This first-time, marathon meeting follows in the tradition of other the duos between collaborations between woodwind master players and six-strings virtuosos, such as Lee Konitz and Billy Bauer, John Coltrane and Kenny Burrell, and Evan Parker and Derek Bailey.
