BFrank Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Just picked up a couple of tix for this next Sunday. I have no idea what to expect, but tix weren't that expensive, and it's guaranteed to be "different". A Lark Ascending Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Monica Vasconcelos and a small band (keyboards, bass, drums) playing a fabulous evening of mainly self-composed (or band composed) Brazilian material. Tremendous. There's apparently an expanded line-up doing a 20 year celebration at the Vortex tonight. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Chris Wood. Goes from strength to strength - richly in the English folk tradition but with mainly self-written songs that reflect our current troubled times. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 looks like a good show, Kevin It was phenomenal. Gardony opened the set solo, playing pieces from his new solo CD, "Clarity", and then switched to the sextet for another hour and a half. Great night and I'm glad I decided to go on the spur of the moment. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 plus Kevin, the only thing you might like more than two great tenors is two great baritones!! glad you went out and caught the show Quote
ejp626 Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 Saw the Vancouver symphony doing Brahms Double Concerto (Violin-Cello) and they did a very nice job. This may be the only time I've heard the composition live. Probably should have left at intermission. The VSO did a credible job on Sibelius' Legends Suite, but I don't think the piece is actually all that. So much bombast for so little effect. The English horn solo part is not completely without interest, I guess, and that sort of dominates the 2nd and 3rd part of the suite. Quote
BFrank Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Buddy Miller & Jim Lauderdale Saw them twice in Austin a couple of months ago. Good show! Quote
kh1958 Posted May 19, 2013 Report Posted May 19, 2013 Thanks again to the Indian Classical Music Circle of DFW for a fabulous concert in Allen, Texas. Vishwa Mohan Bhaat on the Mohan Veena (a modified guitar sounding like a cross between a sitar and a guitar), and Subhen Chatterjee on tabla. Quote
