Left, voluntarily that is! ^_^ Where to start??? I myself haven't had the time I had in the past to post much of anything on the board the last 5 months or so, but checking out the board every few days is like putting on a pair of comfortable shoes. (Hey, I'm sick, it's the best analogy I could think of!)

So, it's sad to see so many people want to leave, in such a short period of time! Why are you all leaving????

There are now, what over a thousand members? Didn't someone mention that 4% (or 1 in 25 people) in the world could be classified as psychopaths?? Even though jazz folks should be better folks than the common rabble, there could be 40 people who post here that could literally stab you in the back, and then get a good night's sleep. I just mention this cuz, the more people who join this board, the more troublemakers will show up, just a fact of life. Why give those troublemakers any kind of victory??

People always react badly when someone is banned, yet if Greg M., DEEP, and Aric were not banned, many more people would have quit this board! Those 3 could bring something nice to the table, and did sometimes but they just didn't give a flying fuck about anyone besides themselves, they all liked to stir up trouble for trouble's sake. They paid the price. Ok. I think one member left because of Aric's departure, but what about the others???

I know I'm not telling anyone something they didn't know, but by and large, this board is about the most civil board around! Why leave this nice warm pool forever, just because some baby peed in the shallow end? We've got chlorine! Algaecide, acid! Please, we are such a tiny community as it is. What are guys gonna do, talk to your next door neighbor about jazz? (The only time that will happen is for him to tell you to turn that awful noise down!)We need Deus, Hans, King Ubu, and Brownie here. Get your asses back here, now! Please!:wub::wub::wub:

Good thread Berigan.

I think the positive here outweighs the negative by a long shot.

The occasional ugliness that erupts is a drag, but as Berigan said, this is bound to happen when you get such a large and diverse group together. This forum is a work in progress, not a perfect machine by any means but I think the intentions for the most part are honorable. I sure appreciate the job Jim has done giving us such a long leash. I'm willing to weather some BS because of the amount of pleasure I derive from hanging out with those who share passion for the music. I guess we all have to decide what we will stand up to (and for) and I respect the decision of those who have left. I do wish they would return- all those listed in the thread title really brighten this place up and help to tip the scale in favor of the positive contributors. I would like to feel that the ties that bind us are much much stronger than those forces which can potentially separate us.

If you guys choose to come back, that would be great. If not, thanks for your contributions and friendship. You are appreciated.

I haven't left. But I guess I will take a step back now.

And please don't come with any more of those "chill out" "relax" "get a life" etc comments - we've had our share of those last night, and it got awfully chilly, for me at least.

I, too, hope that all those who left will come back. I've enjoyed all of your contributions over these last few years, and you all seem like nice, knowledgeable, genuine people. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that what you have brought to this board has been far more valued than you will ever know.

I feel exactly the same, Paul!

I know this thread, for instance, was started with very good intentions. However, I don't think we should put any pressure on anyone to post more than they feel like. I believe people who have - officially or not - left the forums are not totally removed from this community. Perhaps there's an occasional email exchange with someone still here, or some not-logged-in browsing from time to time. So I don't think any of these people would have to feel that their contributions were not appreciated; they know what's happening, at least to the extension they want to know.

Therefore I wish we didn't make such a big deal of this. They will post if they feel comfortable with it, but I think we should respect their decision to stay away for some time (or even permanently).

That I blew my top last night has nothing to with leaving here. It just happend faster. Like I said elsewhere, I'm still around. I just won't post anymore, that's all. For the past year or so (as all of those in the BFT thread noticed) I've had lots of other stuff to do and, ironically, I've been doing exactly what so many people threw around yesterday ... I simply decided to cut back on my board time here and elsewhere and on my Internet time altogether. It's a natural thing with me that comes and goes.

My name change on this board was complicated enough for me (I didn't want to but had to), and Jim was very helpful there. Those people who complained about me not announcing it should consider how much sense the change would have then made in the first place. I did tell some people, I continued to post just the same way I did before (sans the Cheers!). Lots of members noticed, and that was good enough for me. There were enough hints if you read here regularly.

I stand by what I posted yesterday. I think the complacency has reached a level that I don't like, and the board has lost other valuable contributors because of it (I didn't have anything to contribute anyways, besides a laugh or two). The information value remains (although I personally think it has declined somewhat because of the constant negativity), but what it comes down to is simply that I'm doing what is recommended all the time by other members - I'm moving on.

I have no negative feelings whatsoever (Ive been on the Internet far too long to have problems with any of this) and I love you all.

Good enough?

One more thing. I've asked Jim to be allowed to remove some things from this board (or all my posts). This has nothing to do with spite, any angry reaction towards anyone here or whatever. It has to do with the situation that lead to my name change, and I promise to be careful (if allowed to do it by myself). No threads will be deleted, just some stuff I don't want here in the light of current developments in my life. It's not as big a deal as it sounds, but it can simply save me some hassle, and I think that should be explanation enough.

I've also suggested to Jim that if he deletes my stuff by himself, he can change any posts that opened a thread using a neutral handle like "guest", or whatever. It's easy to do. That way 99% of everything stays put. I would have had the chance to delete my stuff before I talked to Jim the first time when the old name went out the window, but I've seen it happen on other boards and it is damn rude, disrupts the flow (especially for newbs), and is just ultra-bad style.

I hope the board moderators will be of assistance in this matter.

Lastly. If I stepped on anyone's toes last night, I'm sorry.

I was pissed off.

Happens.

But the decision to move on was one that started taking shape several months ago.

Now, guys (and few much-adored girls), enjoy the nice weather, eat some junk food, watch some porn, talk about music and just have fun. I'll drop by to read and learn/laugh when the muse bites me.

Cheers!

You can always find me on my website which is currently offline. In the summer it will be back. There's been a major site growing there which will not go online until it is filled with a considerable amount of content. It has nothing to do with jazz, not really, but since most of you collect music, it might be the one thing you've been looking for.

Or not.

Who knows.

P.S.: Now I'll wait for the inevitable "Well, then move on already post ...". :g

Enough already!

If these posters want to leave for a while then let them.

I'll personally miss Hans quite a bit; while the others contributed a lot as well.

Christ! Can't some people take a breaK? The board is not going to fall apart because a few posters take a vacation...

So, I guess you are saying that due to the "forced" nature of the change, you could not have included your old name in your sig, like "the poster formally known as ..."

In that case, continuing to use "Cheers!" as your signoff would have helped a lot of people know who they were dealing with-only one person used that signoff, and it would have ended a lot of confusion, both then and during the unpleasantness.

Sorry to hear you're checking out. Hope you come back later.

I don't know about Deus & Hans, but I see posts by Ubu and Brownie every day. Depends on where you're looking, I guess. Ubu is all over the BFT and Vinyl boards among others and Brownie I see every day in the Discography section where he and I compete as to who can get the "Recorded on this day" post out first. I know I'm shortchanging Brownie because I see him in other forums as well.

I didn't have anything to contribute anyways, besides a laugh or two

That's obviously not true, but still... don't sell short the importance of "a laugh or two." ;)

Your posts will be missed, but I'm glad to hear that you're not really going anywhere. There's nothing wrong with taking a break, but if we see you start hanging around AAJ there's gonna be hell to pay! :D

I agree with RDK.

I enjoyed your presence here. I hope you'll be back someday. :D

CHEERS!

Indeed. It's the collective personality of the board that makes it such a treasure for some of us, and your's was (and likely still is :g ) a distinct, positive personality. Your absence will be felt, as will that of your fellow departees. The problems that created this unfortunate turn of events have not yet been resolved.

Sitting in a booth back in the corner and quietly taking notes, I remain

Yours in Obesity,

Daddy Pop
