Eric Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 The only problem I have with this reissue is that apparently BN decided to slap the song "Experience In E" to the butt-end of "Domination". This pisses me off because it's basically telling the buyer "we're never going to reissue the full album Experience In E, so we'll patch 1/2 of the album to this one that was recorded 5 years before it" I'm all about bonus tracks, and don't mind when an "orphaned" track winds up attached to a seemingly unrelated session, but it royally pisses me off when they intentionally "orphan" 1/2 of an entire album as if to say "this is about as much of Experience In E that you're ever going to get". Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it.... ← They did something similar with a Duke Pearson album several years ago ... Quote

Roberta Flack, & Eddie Harris, not all of whom appear with McCann... Quote

What you SHOULD have called them was "albums" (also a holdover from 78 days when several "sides" would be contained in an "album"). Quote

It's live and unedited. Virtually screams WORKING BAND IN ACTION!!!! if you know what I mean (and I know that you do). This is right at the time when Ball began to open up harmonically, and if there's not a lot of it going on, there's enough to notice. There's also a heretofore unheard Zawinul composition that has a Mingus-y/early-Shorter quality to it. Pretty interesting historical find, that one is. But overall, the attraction is just the energy and the good vibe. These fools didn't goof on nothin', they just played it all really, REALLY, well. And play it all they did - the balance of presentation is impeccable. From bossa to boogaloo to hardass uptempo burns to standard balladry to progressive, it's all hear, and it all sounds just so damn FINE. God bless Cannonball Adderley, and God bless working bands, if any still exist. But - you'll probably be less well-pleased when you read in the liner notes what else was on the tapes and din't get released here... Quote
