JSngry Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Sometimes I feel like this is the really cool UHF station that only comes in on certain days, and when the antenna is angled just so. (Guess the analogy dates me...) But hell, when it's on, it's great! Quote
BruceH Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Just had a problem 10 minutes ago. Couldn't get on at all; tried again and everything's fine. This does seem to happen once every week or 10 days. Quote
lukrion Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 I thought it was just my temporary machine being non-compatible. I'm using a very old Mac Quadra and this is limiting many of the sites I am visiting as well as the content of e-mail (Eudora Light) I can send and receive. Quote
Out2Lunch Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Seems to happen EVERY Sunday. Seems like! Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 MIA again today in the late afternoon/early evening. Quote
catesta Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Does anybody know why this happens? Quote
RonF Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Does anybody know why this happens? Is it likely that this will continue to happen? And does it do any good or help anyone to mention it here? Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Today was really weird. It seemed to go down while I was here, and with a little work, I could actually get around. But I noticed there were only four or five names on the active list at the time. Finally it booted me out for good until a short time ago. Pretty annoying, but whatcha gonna do? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 I'll ask my admin about this and see if he's aware of the problem and if they plan on fixing it. If he can't or won't or doesn't care I don't know what to say. I pay $6 a month for this site and all it's contents which is pretty darn cheap in the land of the internet. I don't think I could afford much more and I'd really rather not charge you guys an access fee! Tell you all what: If we make it big and start making some decent money I'll upgrade to a better host. Ok? Quote
brownie Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 This may be the problem: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...52050_2003aug12 Quote
BERIGAN Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 This may be the problem: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...52050_2003aug12 Yeah, was hearing a lot about it today/yesterday...but just now had trouble getting to the site, but could surf elsewhere on the web with no problems... Claude Posted August 13, 2003 Author Report Posted August 13, 2003 This new internet worm *should* not create problems for webservers (unlike previous worms), because it targets home computers (running Windows NT4, 2000 or XP) that have network ports 135 and 139 open to the internet. This can be prevented with a firewall and should not be a problem with wellconfigured webservers. However, everyone running one of these Windows versions should install the Microsoft patch, because the vulnerability is only possible because of a bug. http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp This worm is really spreading dangerously, several hundred thousand computers worldwide have already been infected. The virus causes the PC to reboot when going online and scans whole internet IP ranges to try to infect other PCs. Quote
Claude Posted August 13, 2003 Author Report Posted August 13, 2003 If you think your computer is infected, use the removal tool from Norton: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html Quote
Gary Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Ive got this on my computer at home & its a NIGTMARE trying to get rid of it. I'd advise everybody with XP to download the patch for it. I had great fun for 4 hours last night trying to fix it & just watching my computer reboot arter a couple of minutes on the web. Even i was surprised at the variety of swear words i managed to conjure up! Quote
