catesta Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Yesterday around 11:00 AM I didn't feel so hot. I went home around 1:00 PM, and fell asleep. I woke up 30 minutes later with some bad chills, so I took my temperature, it was about 102. I went back to sleep, woke up two hours later with a fever of 103. I felt like dog shit, and went back to sleep. This time I wake up around 7:00 PM, and I'm sweating my ass off, but I notice the fever is breaking and my temp starts to go down. By 10:00 PM it was practically normal. When I got up today, aside from being a bit dehydrated, I feel fine. What the hell? Quote

JSngry Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm no doctor, but my guess would be a rogue virus. Them fukkers come in all kinds of durations, and they're constantly mutating, or so I'm told. You might have just proved Darwin's case without even knowing it! But the fever did what it was supposed to do, so all's well, right? I laugh whenever people get freaked out and start swallowing aspirin and stuff at the slightest hint of a fever. No, No, NO! Let the fever do what it's supposed to do - kill the intruders. If it gets out of hand THEN panic, but Hey, Zeus, Kristo - a fever is GOOD more often than not! Quote

shrugs Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 What do grown men have against doctors? Quote
catesta Posted July 23, 2003 Author Report Posted July 23, 2003 The dentist was a chick, so not a damn thing. Seriously, I didn't see the reason to visit to the doctor over this, and it's only been a couple of months since my last regular visit, and all was good. Quote
shrugs Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 That's cool. It's just so often you hear of guys not ever seeing a doc. Or a dentist in some cases. Quote
pryan Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I haven't seen a doc in about three years, but only because the last time I was there I had to wait more than two hours! I know I should get a checkup but it pisses me off having to wait so long. Maybe it's better in the States where people have private medicare (I seriously doubt it, though). Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 (edited) That's cool. It's just so often you hear of guys not ever seeing a doc. Or a dentist in some cases. First of all, there is no question that most men shy from doctors. I happen to know this firsthand as I am involved in the insurance industry and one of the questions asked when applying for life insurance is, "when was the last time you visited a doctor?" Men can't even remember the last time, while women rattle off virtually the exact date. I know that this also applies to me. I avoid doctors whenever possible. If I go to see them, the interminable wait occurs and then they are likely to poke or place some metal object into an undignified part of my body. Of course, they wouldn't do this unless they had to, and I understand that. Still, I get upset over the long waits and the whole rigamole involved. Then there's the settling with the insurance company afterwards when you discover that they pay only a portion of the bill. You then receive a multitude of bills from the various medical people and facilities, because the profession seems to be somewhat self-propagating as they refer you out to "specialists" or "labs." Even hospitals don't seem to carry all the necessary testing equipment. I cannot overcome the feeling that medical people want you to undergo as many tests as possible in order to protect their butts should they misdiagnose something. Why don't men go to the doctor? Because it takes tons of time, costs lots of money, and in the end the tests all come out negative! Still, we have to do it, cause you never know....
