7/4
Sins of a guitarist: No Tal Farlow, Jimmy Raney, or Billy Bauer. Joe, you gotta fix that Jim Raney quick. No Kenny G. Yeah, I know....
birdanddizzy
Sins of a guitarist: No Tal Farlow, Jimmy Raney, or Billy Bauer. Joe, you gotta fix that Jim Raney quick. Also, have a look to René Thomas...
BruceH
No Keith Jarrett in my collection. But I don't consider this shameful or bewildering at all. That makes one of us! Of course, no Basie and 20+ Jarrett on my part might seem a bit odd. Just a bit. But to each his own.
Rooster_Ties
Hardly any big band stuff, except I have quite a bit of Gil Evans, and I DO own the Gerald Wilson Mosaic ( ) (Which for me is really saying something, since for years the Gerald Wilson was the only non-BN Mosaic I owned -- well, other than the Woody Shaw). BruceH
No electric Miles. No Kenny G, either. Still no regrets.
Rooster_Ties
No Keith Jarrett in my collection. No Keith Jarrett for me either. (Like I said before, I don't own any "vocalist" leader dates.)
Randy Twizzle
[Opening the Penguin Guide to a random page] No Viktoria Tolstoy, Tolvan Big Band, Alan Tomlinson or even Jim Tomlinson.
md655321
How about this: I don't own a single Mosaic set. I figure thats the worst possible sin on this site.

chris olivarez
I could use more Basie and since Warne Marsh is spoken of in such glowing terms I need to check him out and I have practically no Ella Fitzgerald I need to correct that and since BMG is offering the humogous box set at an insanely low price I'm close to pulling the trigger on that one. Aggie87
Sins of a guitarist: No Tal Farlow, Jimmy Raney, or Billy Bauer. Joe, Caiman still has the Tal Farlow Mosaic set for $50.69. Can't beat that price for some great music! They're a reliable seller too. Edited March 26, 2006 by Aggie87
Guy Berger
Only 14 Ellington discs, only 1 Basie, only 4 Charlie Parkers & 4 Dizzy Gillespies, aside from Chuck's box only 2 AEoCs, only 3 Cecil Taylors, only 1 Paul Bley, only 2 Lee Konitz. No Louis Armstrong, no Art Pepper, no Carla Bley. Aside from some Ellington almost no pre-bebop jazz. Guy
Alexander
Aside from a few tracks on compilations, I don't have any Fletcher Henderson (an omission I keep meaning to fix). I only have one Benny Carter disc. A small handful of Coleman Hawkins (five or six discs). Basically, any artist of whom I have fewer than ten discs, I feel like to I need to get more... Dave James
Not that I don't like her, but I haven't a single Sarah Vaughn CD in my entire collection. Up over and out.
Quincy
Biggest sins (IMO) - no Jelly Roll Morton or Bessie Smith. Some others, certainly not all: Keith Jarrett, John Patton, Jack McDuff, Jimmy Raney, Artie Shaw, Mose Allison (outside of Who/Townshend covers ) Chico Hamilton, Cal Tjader, George Shearing, Hal Russell, Wadada Leo Smith. I know where to get the last 2. No Chu Berry but I'm eagerly awaiting the Mosaic.
(BB)
More holes than money, sorry to say. Prez would have to be the most glaring omission at this point, as he influenced so many of the folks I really dig.

Joe G
Sins of a guitarist: No Tal Farlow, Jimmy Raney, or Billy Bauer. Joe, you gotta fix that Jim Raney quick. Actually, I just remembered that I do have one Raney disc. It's the play-along he did for Abersold. Unfortunately I lost the accompanying book long ago. Edit: I just did a google search on the phrase "abersold playalong", and first hit was: JustJazz Discussion List: RE: Jimmy Raney chords HELP!1 (Abersold ... Crazy! Noj
More holes than money, sorry to say. That about sums up my collection. My to-buy list is longer than my inventory. Much of the to-buy list are from Organissimo Blindfold Tests. Off the top of my head, some names on the list are: Horace Parlan Barry Harris Ornette Coleman Need some of those guitarists Joe mentioned, too! The most recent additions have included Ellington and Mingus, both of whom were glaring omissions from my collection for far too long. Still need more! I also have tons of single albums by giants such as Gil Evans. Need more Coltrane. Like Lon said though, there's still tons to discover! A non-jazz gap that has been irking me forever is the absense of any Steely Dan on my shelves. Edited March 26, 2006 by Noj
Rooster_Ties
I may have some huge, gaping holes in my collection... But if nothing else, I do have a near complete Tyrone Washington collection (both as a leader and sideman).
