Of course the title of the cd is silly and reeking with rank commercialism, but the music is stellar! It is a collection of recordings from Coltrane’s Prestige years. The listing of tunes is outstanding! I cut my teeth on these Prestige recordings so they have a special meaning to me. The recordings on this cd will give the listener a sample of Coltrane’s playing style which was considerably different from what he did years later for the Atlantic and Impulse labels. Tunes such as I Want To Talk About You, Invitation, Lush Life and You Leave Me Breathless populate this wonderful recording. Again, don’t be discouraged by the silly title and commercial cd graphics. McCoy on My Favorite Things, Song of Praise and Afro Blue is for me some of the best McCoy on record period. It's all there. This music is also a great exercise-workout motivator. I have to say. . . these are a nice little digipaks. I have fun comparing these to other versions of the music I have. The sound is excelllent, rivals the K2 Japanese versions I have of some of these titles; the K2s are a tad mellower (a plus) and these are a tad more dynamic (a plus). I snagged "Dear Old Stockholm" about three weeks ago and I couldn't believe that I let that slide for so long; Roy Haynes is a mofo on these dates Favorites are Ole Coltrane, Africa Brass, Meditations, Sun Ship, At the Village Vanguard Again!, Expression, and Om. He just had a zany run with his sister Gracie and then came inside to con me into giving him a cookie (he comes over to you, puts his front paws on your chair and stairs deeply into your eyes, then when he is sure he has your attention, he walks over to where he knows the treats are kept, looks up at the counter and then back at you - and if you don't give him what he wants, he'll repeat those exact steps until you do).
