chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 23, 2007 Author Report Posted December 23, 2007 when i found it i was actually searching for jimi hendrix bootlegs, lol- whats up w/ Tyronne Washington, is he alive?? Quote
JSngry Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Last I heard (from Heiner Stadler, a few years ago), Tyrone had left music as a profession and dedicated his life to his religion. As far as Heiner knew, he was still alive, although that was "as far as he knew". Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 I really like Scotty Holt with Noah Howard and with Jackie McLean. Wonder whatever happened to him? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Would LOVE to hear anything by this band. Tryone and Woody, how can you go wrong!! Quote
marcello Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) I used to have this one back in the day. It was horrible! Well look here, I found this on YouTube. Judge for yourself... Tyrone Washington - Roots Edited December 24, 2007 by marcello Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 You know, I've never heard that record. The selection posted here isn't bad at all, better than I expected anyway. Quote
marcello Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) Not my thing Cliff. Let me see if I still have it in my vinyl racks....Nope! It went to that great LP trade in the sky. Edited December 24, 2007 by marcello Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Not normally mine, either. Funny how those things go innit? Quote
JohnS Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 I used to have this one back in the day. It was horrible! Well look here, I found this on YouTube. Judge for yourself... Tyrone Washington - Roots If that's the best on the album then I could probably do without it. Quote
JSngry Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 I like Roots (especially the Stevie Wonder cover), as well as Do Right. Flawed, sure, (in no ways fatally, though) but how do you tell the Tyrone Washington Story without them? The guy seemed to be intensely sincere about bringing his message to the masses, and his apparent naivete about how uncommercial his attempts at "commercialism" were just add to the weight of the tale. If the Cosmic Brotherhood scene was "underground", hell, this stuff was Uber-Underground. But just listen to Tyrone's singing on Do Right - the cat's on a freakin' Mission From God and will not entertain doubt. And then he "vanished". That's part of the story too, the payoff, really. But you don't get there from Natural Essence & Brilliant Circles. There's a few more stops along the way. (aside - don't you love the way that You Tube's turning into a jukebox? I'm seeing more and more of the video-less music videos there...) Quote
Bluerein Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 Do Right is still available in Japan on CD. Ask Mr. Tanno or Do it Right yourself!!!!!: http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1408590 Quote
analogak Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) this is tyrone washington and his soulful band. we're going to make you feel the best that we can. Edited December 24, 2007 by dumpy mama Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 25, 2007 Author Report Posted December 25, 2007 tyronne with art blakey is sick/ and that youtube song is good! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 (edited) Roots is da bomb. I'd pay triple-scale for a legit CD of that puppy, in a heartbeat. Do Right is just plain freaky. But Sangrey is right - it's a key piece of the Tyrone Washington puzzle. Dyin' to hear The Trainwreck, and I had no idea that any of the Blakey/Shaw/Washington JM dates had ever been recorded (in any fashion). Would abolutely love to hear that group someday. Absolutely. Totally. Tyrone Washington, live!! The very thought sends chills down my spine. Edited December 25, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 There's gotta be a tree or Dimeadozen somewhere that you could procure this, Rooster. Quote
Soul Stream Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Man that cut from YouTube from Roots is some plain Badassedness. Dig it...gotta get it. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Anybody (else) heard the Blakey date with Woody and Tyrone??? Quote

bertrand Posted Thursday at 01:39 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:39 PM (edited) Wait - it might be Tyrone after all who would have been in the band briefly. The 3/29/69 Downbeat issue (page 15) might clear it up. Rooster, do you have it? This is from Mike Fitzgerald's Blakey chronology which I cannot seem to paste the link to from my phone, check jazzmf.com Does anyone have a copy of the tape? What is the unidentified tune? Ā Ā Edited Thursday at 01:39 PM by bertrand Quote
Niko Posted Thursday at 01:49 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:49 PM (edited) you mean 3/20/69 p.15, right? That I have, there's no information about the lineup on that pageĀ btw, here's the link to Michael Fitzgerald's page https://jazzmf.com/art-blakey-chronology-and-the-jazz-messengers/ Edited Thursday at 01:52 PM by Niko Quote
bertrand Posted Thursday at 02:21 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:21 PM Yes, 3/20, dumb typo. I wonder how Tyrone's name got in the mix. I am also curious as to what the Untitled piece is. Quote
