ghost of miles
I noticed that BFrank is listening to this as well in another thread--audio will be archived around 6 p.m. tonight: Blue Note on Talk of the Nation ...Lundvall says catalogue sales used to be 50% of total sales, now 35% because the catalogue's been around for so long. BFrank
Charlap has joined the discussion now. I'll have to listen to this hour later as it's hard to listen while at work.
Jim Alfredson
Interesting discussion. I caught the tail end of it. I thought it was interesting how many callers and emailers mentioned Jimmy Smith and how much they love the organ sound. Does Blue Note even have an organ player on the roster now? Note to Mr. Lundvall: organissimo is here.
Ken Dryden
With Blue Note deleting many of their new releases and reissues so quickly, it's little wonder catalog sales are smaller these days.
BFrank
I think BN needs a B-3 presence and I think it should be ORGANISSIMO!
BruceH
I meant to listen to this today but only caught a tiny bit of it. Will have to listen online sometime.
CJ Shearn
I emailed a question about the future of the catalog, not sure if they answered that one, but I caught the last hour and MC said "these records are not really going away" so I wonder if he was meaning that the catalog will be available for download in the future

Teasing the Korean
... MC said "these records are not really going away" so I wonder if he was meaning that the catalog will be available for download in the future No, he probably meant that there will be multiple used copies of every title available everywhere, as there are now at the places I haunt. ghost of miles
I think BN needs a B-3 presence and I think it should be ORGANISSIMO! HERE HERE! Anybody care to work up a mock Organissimo BN cover, Reid-Miles-style?
Teasing the Korean
Not to be contrary, but does anyone honestly care about current "Blue Note" artists? It strikes me as being just another corporate logo.
AllenLowe
in my opinion, Lundvall is part of the problem, not the solution - always, one step forward, 2 steps backwards when it comes to jazz -
Rooster_Ties
Not to be contrary, but does anyone honestly care about current "Blue Note" artists? It strikes me as being just another corporate logo. Depends. Who can still be considered a "current Blue Note artist"?? I'm sure I don't give a damn about the whole roster, but there might be a couple names there I'm still interested in. Is Jason Moran still on the label? Chuck Nessa
Bruce and Michael sounded like they were whistling past the graveyard.
Shrdlu
Interesting discussion. I caught the tail end of it. I thought it was interesting how many callers and emailers mentioned Jimmy Smith and how much they love the organ sound. Does Blue Note even have an organ player on the roster now? Note to Mr. Lundvall: organissimo is here. Absolutely, Jim. At the risk of seeming sycophantic (there is a less polite term for it, lol), I'd sure vote for that.
