BruceH Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 There were a whole string of these using shredder guitar heros until they got yanked because one of the guitar heroes got offended. What about the trumpet heroes? Quote
Late Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Laughing is good for the abs. Wynton, thank you for the six-pack. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 pfffst. todd rundgren rocked the show back in '86, all of you shold just watch that Quote
Enterprise Server Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Well, I'm going against the grain of all you Wynton disciples in this thread. I couldn't get excited about it (the video). Sorry. I think Wynton was much more interesting when he first began with Art Blakey and his first three or four Columbia recordings. But I think his brother Brandford, is much more musically creative and interesting. But unlike the Wynton haters, I think the man can play. I don't see him as technically deficient. But it is the material he steadfastly refuses to move beyond that hamstrings him. I love the classics but his attempts to reinvent the art of Ellington, Armstrong, Henderson, Parker, et al, has become somewhat tedious. Every since he hooked up with Stanley Crouch, he has fallen into the quicksand of static conservative traditionalism......IMO. Quote

I don't think there's a single Wynton disciple in this thread. Quote
7/4 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 It appears that Wynton got you or we got you or something like that. dB Quote
Late Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 A year later, and now — for the first time ever, I think — the original version of So What is finally on the internet. I have to say, I am very impressed. I can't understand why this particular take ended up being the alternate (for "The Sound of Jazz" television show), but, hey, at least we have it to treasure now. If you are a Miles fan, this is a "must see." Quote

Big Wheel Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I think this comment on that clip wins the Internet today: ...judging by the intonation on the bass- I'd swear it was Ron Carter! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I've never seen any of these things before; we don't get them in our cave, but that Wynton one makes my head hurt when I open my eyes. Quote
ejp626 Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Well, this will probably get yanked to politics, but someone has shredded Yo-Yo Ma playing at Obama's inauguration: . What really sells it is the hideous clarinet playing -- and someone in the crowd hacking up a lung. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 My two favorite shredding videos are the Santana and Eddie Van Halen. Quote
