Peter Friedman Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 Back while living in Rochester, NY I had a pair of large Magnapan speakers. Loved them, but they were the size of a door. When my wife and I retired and decided to move to Tucson, Arizona, the idea of moving those large and fragile speakers did not seem appropriate. So I found some wonderful Audio Physic speakers (made in Germany) at a local Audio Shop. Was able to make an arrangement with the owner. He would do a trade for my 10 year old Magnapans in exchange for the Audio Physic speakers along with some cash from me. However the terrific part of the arrangement was as follows. He would come to my house a few days before we moved and pick up the Magnapans in his truck. He arranged for the new Audio Physic speakers to be drop shipped to my new house in Tucson. So no moving the speakers and no shipping charge. I have been very pleased with the Audio Physic speakers though they do sound a bit different from the Magapans. Quote
Pim Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/rega-planar-3-rs-edition I decided to treat myself this year with a new deck: a Planar 3 RS. The upgrade is beyond expected. It sounds amazing but most of all: it’s way more silent than my P2. Since we have solar panels it reproduced an enormous annoying squeak that sometimes was hearable in silent passages and its gone now! This special edition comes with quite a package of upgrades and it’s very hearable. What a great deck! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 Congrats! That looks like an excellent table. For about ten years I've had a P3 with the Exact2 cartridge and the Groovetracer Reference sub-platter, counterweight and Delrin platter, and for the last two years the Neo2 motor controller and I use the newest top of the line Rega belt. Love the sound! Quote
HutchFan Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 That's FANTASTIC, Pim! Congrats on the new gear! I'm in the Rega club too. I have a "vintage" Planar 3 -- with a Dynavector 10X5 cartridge. Quote

Thanks guys great to see there are more Rega fans out here. I know @Rabshakeh also is. very happy with it. The cool thing about this RS edition is that it comes standard with quite some upgrades: - the same High Pressure Laminate as the P6, P8 and P10 models as plinth - Rega ND5 cartridge - Rega Neo PSU power supply - Reference Belt Thought slightly more expensive than the regular P3 the package price is pretty competitive for all what you get. I definitely expected improvement over my P2 but not in this way. Especially very happy the ‘solar panel noise’ is finally gone. I had a big smile on my face all trough the first side of the LP. Then I called my wife to come and listen. She smiled, looked at me in a pity full kinda way and said: I really don’t hear what you’re talking bout but hey as long as your happy with it…. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Fantastic! When I upgraded it was like having a whole new LP collection! Quote
mjazzg Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Just read the review, sounds like it's a very impressive bit of kit. And finally a Rega deck that switches speeds by a button, that's the reason I didn't go with Rega last time. Quote
OliverM Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Nice! The Neo PSU power supply makes a big difference IMO. I have almost the same deck, the P6 with an Exact cartridge. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 (edited) I agree, I had a TTPSU and then bought the NEO, a small step up. The biggest step up for me was the Groovetracer Reference Sub-platter--game changing. Edited February 1 by jazzbo Quote
HutchFan Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 (edited) I've been using the speakers in my stereo system -- Pinnacle PN8's -- since my wife & I got married in 1992. I like the sound of them very much, and I got a great deal on them all those years ago. But my LOVELY wife, knowing how much I enjoy listening to music, recently suggested that I upgrade them. She didn't have to twist my arm. So I dove into the internet, reading as much as I could online. More importantly, I spent a bunch of time listening to different speakers -- both at a friend's place and at a local shop. I heard models by Magnepan, Vandersteen, Wharfedale, KEF, Dynaudio, and Paradigm. The whole "research"/comparison process was good fun, an excellent excuse to hang out with some cool people and listen closely to music. This last weekend, I pulled the trigger and ordered a set of Paradigm Founder 100F speakers: They should arrive in a week or so. To say that I'm stoked is an understatement. I can't wait to hear them. Edited February 10 by HutchFan Quote

I now have the perfect headphone setup; DAC, headphone amplifier, and Susvara headphones and some really nice cables to link them all together. Sounds wonderful. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I visited a friend-of-a-friend's house over the weekend. I have visited him before. He's always buying the latest & greatest audio gear. This time, he had Tekton Ulfberht speakers. Holy cow, are these things huge! Using a tweeter array to cover the midrange frequencies results in a much bigger speaker than most. These were probably a foot taller than me. My wife would kill me if I tried bringing these home. BTW - he claimed that these speakers had an insane 97 dB sensitivity. I don't believe that for one second as I've never seen a non-horn speaker have numbers much higher than 92 dB. Apparently, some independent labs have measured much lower sensitivity (less than 90 dB0 and the founder/owner of Tekton is supposedly threatening to sue them over it. Quote
Dub Modal Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Those speakers are incredible. Does anyone have experience with Hegel amps? Listened to an interview yesterday with their reps and came away with the impression that they come with a lot of bang for the buck. Quote

His were black but looked just as imposing. They sounded very good. At first, the high frequencies were rather diffuse. I figured it was the tweeter array used for the midrange, as that's probably my "high" frequencies these days. But when I had him toe in the speakers a lot, the highs became much more pronounced. Even he commented that they sounded much better with that severe toe-in. It created a very small "sweet spot", where we sat playing some great music. He had a Qobuz hi rez download of Cannonball's "Somethin' Else" and I immediately played "One For Daddy-O", one of my favorite Blue Note tracks and it was sublime. When Cannonball hits his first solo, it just jumped at us. I made him wait until the end of the track before playing somethin' else and when Miles asked, "Is that what you wanted, Alfred?", it sound like he was in the room with us. Quote
